Overview

From the time they were eight years old, Kip Stroud and Shelley Ballard spent their summers together on Block Island, swimming, biking, exploring...and growing up. As teenagers, they argued about books, complained about chores and learned from each other a little about the way boys and girls viewed each other. They were best friends—until a tragedy in Shelley’s life tore them apart.

Twelve years later, Kip has had to face his own tragedy. When he returns to the island to heal, he discovers that Shelley is now living there, older and wiser but bearing emotional scars. He is scarred, too—something they can share as they rediscover their friendship. But comfort and compassion aren’t love.

Kip believes he will never love again. Shelley believes she can’t love. Yet one night, their beliefs are shattered, and they realize they have a lot more to learn from each other.

    OK book, AWESOME location!

I'm really not much of a fan of romance books...to me they all seem to follow the boy-meets-girl, boy-and-girl-lose-each-other, boy-and-girl-reunite pattern. Which I think this book totally did. What made this book fun for me was that it was situated on Block. Unless you've visited the Island, its uniqueness just can't be appreciated. The references in this book to life on the Island always made me smile.

    Wow...so good

Yes, this book may be loaded with deep emotional issues but it is a wonderfully written sweet love story. I highly recommend reading Shelley and Kip's story...you won't regret it.

I enjoyed the book, but for some reason the text was pretty messed up! The font kept changing size drastically...

    tragedy turned romantic

I totally loved this book. Was pulling for the two friends the whole time. Never have read a book by this author, but I will again . This book made me long for my own summer friends, that have I have lost contact with over the years. At times I found my self thinking of the movie, My Girl. What would have happened if the young boy didnt pass away.

    Excellent read

Although you know that eventually these two are going to end up together, the twists and turns getting there will keep you turning pages. Judith Arnold is good at putting off the answers to the characters questions, not only to the characters, but to you the reader so you have to keep reading even when you don't have time.
