Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"With its whimsical sense of fashion, thrilling adventure and complex backstory, Sailor Moon was like little else young girls had ever before seen on television, and miles above anything American animators were offering them. The anime led to interest in the manga, which in turn became the sort of success that made the bookstore market sit up and take notice. Scratch a modern-day manga fangirl, and you're likely to find someone who watched Sailor Moon when she was young." -The Comics Journal

    Finally!

After paying close to $20 per volume in Amazon thinking that these were out of print forever and ever, Sailor Moon is being re-released. Much to my heart's content. I don't regret buying the Amazon for they have the original covers...but I will definitely buy the Kodansha print. Sailor Moon has been part of my childhood since I can remember. I started watching the Anime back when I was 5, and more than two decades after...I still love this story line. Sailor Moon made an impact of the Magical Girl genre and raised the bar for future manga. The story is about a girl, Usagi, who finds out through Luna, a talking cat, that she is to battle evil by becoming Sailor Moon. She then is joined by the Inner scouts who are her team and then, in a later arc, the Outer scouts who are the ones that protect the earth against incoming invaders. The story gets a bit darker towards the end but nonetheless it is amazing. Any girl who watches anime and is into manga, specially those over twenty, will remember waking up early to watch this show on tv.

    YES YES YES!

I have the original Sailor Moon SuperS and StarS Arc in my possession and am proud of it! I had actually ordered the first volume of the StarS Arc from B&N because they were the only ones who had it. The original Sailor Moon had ran out before I could get to get to own them. Now, I can actually own them with the new reprintings! Not the original cover artwork unfortunately, but I will no doubt have my fill of collecting my favorite manga of all time. Sailor Moon was my hero growing up and I am proud to say she will until the die I die! Praise Kodansha for the republication of Sailor Moon! <3333

Finally! Sailor Moon is re-release and it is so much better! I have been a fan since I was in middle school and had all the comic books as well as the pocket mixx books but had to sell them. Now, I can collect them again! The book is a lot bigger and the story continues a lot longer then the pocket mixx. The first book is a book and a half long compared to the pocket mixx books. I enjoyed the new designed on the front and back cover. The book itself reads like a traditional japanese book, right to left. The first few pages of Sailor Moon Volume 1 are glossy and colored. The translation are nice took. I like how they used her actual name in this book instead of Serena. Overall, this is a wonderful series!

    Long Live Sailor Moon!
When I was younger, Sailor Moon was my favorite tv show and I watched it every day! I even had a Sailor Moon doll. I remember as I got older, I searched high and low at libraries for the original Sailor Moon manga, and I eventually found the first two. But I was young and I really couldn't understand them. But I'm so happy that after 20 years, they've be re-released!! Sailor Moon has always been a part of me and I love everything about the series. What I really like about the new releases is the better translation and the fact that the characters have their original Japanese names. I'm also very excited because I heard that a new Sailor Moon anime is supposed to come out later this year! I absolutely recommend Sailor Moon to any girl, because it really is an amazing series that will build you confidence. And help you to realize that love conquers all, and that with teamwork, anything can be accomplished! Long live the moon princess!

I love seeing my childhood sailor scouts back in reprint and with pretty covers too! What's not to love about Sailor Moon (beside the fact that they kick butt and take names and go after the back guys!). Easy read, art is pretty, and characters are loveable :D

    A little disappointed!
The original Mixx edition had the artist comments, but it was flipped to "Americanize" it.
I'm glad they reprinted but I would have loved Naoko's original panels instead of the chibis...

I have loved sailor moon since I first saw the anime when it came out in the us. I have seen every english episode and movie. I still have to work on the japanese ones though. I have never before had the chance to read the manga before. But I got the first and sixth ones for christmas and was SUPER excited. I read the first one and almost cried when I finished it because I have to wait until I get paid for the second one. But I love the manga so much more then the anime because it is so much better.

reading previous reviews I am glad that I didnt get to read the manga before now. im so glad to read one that is supposed to be accurate and is in proper manga format.

    An excellent manga

I've been a fan of Sailor Moon ever since I first saw it air on Toonami back in the day. This is basically the show that made me love anime. Even so, there we re changes made when it came to the US, but this manga does a great job of remaining true to the original series. It has their original names, plot points, and everything. Nothing has been changed. The art style is a joy to look at and it is still a great series to get involved in after all these years. It just makes me all the more excited for the reboot of the series that has already been announced. Any fan of shoujo or magical girls should definitely pick up this manga.

It's been almost a decade since i last saw Sailor Moon on tv (Cartoon Network, summer of 2002) and since then moved on with life. However, when i discovered that the manga was being rereleased in 2011, i just got my hands on on this volume including the first volume of sailor v and my interest in sailor moon was reborn. This is the first time i read the manga and what a difference it is compared to the anime like how usagi is more mature here compared to the anime. But of course she' s still the crybaby and meatball head we the fans still know and love. Can't wait for the new series, Long Live Sailor Moon.

When I found out that they were re-releasing the Sailor Moon man

When I found out that they were re-releasing the Sailor Moon manga with new, more accurate translations, I was beyond excited. As a long time Sailor Moon fan, when I opened up this manga, I was not disappointed. This series is a thousand times better than the original. The story line stays more true and is definitely for an older audience than the original United States series.

Its a little darker with more mature themes but still the great characters I've known and loved most of my life. Worth the money!

If you're a Sailor Moon fan, look up "Sailor Moon Forever!" on Facebook. Its a group of fans discussing the new manga, sharing pictures, and keeping up to date on the new anime series coming out in 2013!

I'm soo happy they brought this back to America. It was funny when they were making the announcement that they were bringing this back I was just thinking of looking for the manga I was missing. Since my manga collection was incomplete due to lack of allowance, and they were hard to find at the time. Sailor Moon was a big part of my childhood and what really got me into anime and manga. My sister and I would always wake up Sunday morning to watch Sailor Moon. Finally getting the chance to read the first manga really brings back those memories. I would also like to say the translation is alot better than the first time they released the manga. I also love the cover art. I would totally recomend this to anyone who has watched Sailor Moon or wanting a good classic manga to read.

I remember seeing the series when I was a little girl and just barely I found out last year the name of awesome series that made me a role model to everybody. When I say the name "Sailor Moon" in my computer, I automatically started looking for the anime again. after that, I saw that they had the series in the manga version and was so into it that I finished the whole five series in a week. Now that the manga is renewed again, I want to buy all of them. I feel the admiration that this book had given me to keep up trying for the people that loves you and return that favor back. Even if Usagi is a crybaby and all, she made me want to cry in the end because she suffered a lot. I also happened to go to a lot of suffering in the last year and without this manga, I don't know what would I be doing right now.
