Editorial Reviews

VOYA
The most recent book in the Bluford Series is a quick but serious read. Teens who are familiar with the novels will be waiting for this latest episode in the life of students at Bluford High. Although the setting is one with which urban students perhaps will identify best, the problems of main character Ben McKee are ones that teens everywhere recognize as all-too familiar. As Ben finds himself moving from a safe and sane world into one of violence and secrets meant to protect, he tries to figure out how to deal with issues that all too often characterize the lives of many young people. An abusive stepfather, bullying, the stress of insufficient income, and an adult world that teens sometimes feel helpless against as it butts up against their own lives are all at center stage in this short novel that has sizable impact. Of equal significance, however, are the adults who come to Ben's rescue. As Ben tries to cover what is happening at home, an insightful aunt and observant neighbor recognize that something is terribly amiss in Ben's life. In the end, their vigilance will restore peace and safety not only to Ben but also to his mother whom he knows has made decisions that she hoped would benefit them both. There is an audience for the Bluford books. They offer hope against extremely tough odds, and teens will be drawn to the stories for that very reason.

    Struggles

In my opinion, I think this book is great. As I was reading this, I couldn't put it down. Even in class nothing could distract me. This
book shows me how there are kids that struggle with moving with their one parent to a new location with the parents new mate.

    Search for Safety review

I liked this book, because it was an overall good book. The main character Ben Mckee is having family trouble, his mom and her new husband just got married and they moved to a small rundown house, and a new school, Bluford high. Ben hides the bruises and he needs to get away from his raging stepfather, Larry. I recommend this book to you because it is a really good book.

The best book i have read!

Could you imagine your stepfather hurting you and your mom? I liked this book it is very interesting to read. Ben is small and helpless when hurt comes his way. His stepfather is calling him names like Benny boy. Ben is being brutally abused along with his mother. She says it will go away. But when the abusment doesn't go away aunt Fay steps in to help. Does Larry get caught or not? Read this book to find out!

This book is great for young adults

This book Search for safety is mostly for teenagers 13-16 who like reading books with action and excitement. The author Paul Langen did a good job in writing this book. The book search for safety is about a teenager Ben Mckee that¿s going to a new school. His stepdad Larry just got married to his mom, and he can tell that Larry doesn¿t like Ben that much. He finds out how much Larry doesn¿t like him when Larry starts abusing Ben and his mother. Ben goes to school and get¿s notices by his friends and teachers because of his bruises on his face and the way he¿s been acting. Ben get¿s a job at a local grocery store and is likes working their. Later when the store get¿s robbed he has a hint that the robber is one of Larry¿s friends. I enjoyed reading this book since I started and it was hard to put the book down. This book is about what happens to some teenagers everyday.

This book was too short but it was a good book. I liked almost every part, but it could've been better. It was basically about a teenange boy who moves in with his new step father. Later he starts abusing him phisically and verbally.Along the way Ben meets new people and makes some very intresting friends. This book was'nt as great as I thought it would be.Search for Safety I would say would be a good book for spare reading. Or on a boring day. Setting aside my opinions i would have to say that this book overall was great and very suspenseful!!

I didn't really enjoy reading this book like I thought I would. A couple of my friends recommended that I should read this book, but once I started reading it, I was bored. In the book Search For Saftey, Ben's mother got re-married to a man name Larry Taylor. Larry Taylor is an abusive alcholic that recently lost his job. Shortly after Ben's mother got married Ben and his mother moved out of his Aunt Fay's house to live with Larry. Larry would always pick a fight with Ben and usually ends up abusing Ben physically and mentally. If you want to know what happened to Larry Taylor, Ben McKee, and his mother then you should read this book and find out if Ben survived the abuse incident or not.
