Overview

Damn stupid kids. Damn these stupid-ass kids and their baseball bats and their boring-ass lives that they ain't got nothin' better to do on a Wednesday night but drive around bustin' up mailboxes. Luther Guthrie's tired of replacing broken mailboxes and isn't going to put up with it anymore, not one more damn minute, and if the damn stupid-ass kids doin' it get hurt, well, they shouldn't have started this in the first damn place. But sometimes being revengeful extracts a mighty toll, and of course by the time you know this, it's too late, far too late indeed...

Meet the Author

I live just outside Raleigh, North Carolina. I've only been professionally published once, in last fall's edition of Flashquake online magazine, but I hope it's the start of something long term. I'm happily married, and I'm the father to two beautiful little girls, ages five and two, who will never be allowed to date boys, drive cars that are transporting boys, nor ride in cars to places where boys are present, or wear non-Amish-spinster-approved clothing in front of boys. I love horror movies, rhythmic noise, peanut butter, and the Munsters, not necessarily in that order. Please feel free to contact me if you want; I'd love to hear what you thought of the book. My e-mail address is zombieapocalypse at earthlink.net. Thanks for reading.

Overall, this was a compelling short story until the last few pages. The pace, tone, word choice, and character introductions were done well up to this point. After the revenge scene, though, all bets are off. It seems like a different writer took over from here. The quality in general went South quickly. The post-accident-follow-up-ending was too long, very predictable, and anti-climatic. All of the follow up should have been included and re-written into an epilogue. Other than that, the story pacing was just right and the writing style was very good. It was believable and relatable. (i.e. homeowners do not like teens causing property damage or vandalism where they live.) The first lesson learned reminded us that revenge is always a double edged sword. Everyone is affected in ways that they never expected once a revenge scheme is put into action. The second moral says that you should treat others as you would want to be treated by them. A very basic idea that not a lot of people employ. I really enjoyed the story, the writing, and the basic framework for the characters up until the revenge plot is hatched and reaps what it sows. Everything, after the kid gets seriously injured and the man gets a divorce, is an excessively long epilogue that should have been separated out or deleted entirely. Otherwise the story loses its great pacing, proper length, and the writing quality declines as well. -AvidReader

Wow, do unto others as others do unto you.

I don't know if this is an introduction to a longer work or not. It was not described as such in the synopsis. This short story is rather slow moving and the end leaves you hanging thinking there should be more. There are also some spacing mistakes in this book that were not caught and corrected. Fortunately, this was a free book. For what it contains and how short it is (27 pages) it wouldn't be worth a charge. The cover picture also is not representative of the story line.

Though a quick read, the story was good. Consequences to actions, a lesson in life. I would definitely read more from this author.

I didn't care for the way the book ended. I guess that's why I don't remember how it ended?

There's not much detail here but not a super bad story. Makes you think about the consequences to your actions. Ok read and takes about 5 minutes - 18 pages. Would read more by this author.

A short story about a high school prank, a farmers anger with it and how As time passes their lives go from bad to worse. The ending is a must read.
