Overview

Three young heirs, imprisoned by an unscrupulous uncle, escaped—to the sea, to the streets, to faraway battle—awaiting the day when they would return to reclaim their birthright.

Sebastian Easton always vowed he would avenge his stolen youth and title. Now back in London, the rightful Duke of Keswick—returning from battle a wounded, hardened, changed man—cannot forget the brave girl who once rescued him and his brothers from certain death.

Lady Mary Wynne-Jones paid dearly for helping the imprisoned young Lords of Pembrook, and she remembers well the promise she made to Sebastian all those years ago: to meet him once more in the abbey ruins where they shared a bold, forbidden kiss. While Mary is now betrothed to another, a friendship forged with dark secrets cannot be ignored. Unexpected passion soon burns dangerously between them, tempting Sebastian to abandon his quest for retribution and fight for a love that could once again set him free.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Bestseller Heath (Pleasures of a Notorious Gentleman) launches the Lost Lords of Pembrook series with a one-note antagonist in an otherwise strong tale. As a child, Sebastian Easton, the eighth duke of Keswick, fled from his murderous uncle. When Sebastian and his brothers return as the legendary lost lords, only his childhood best friend, Lady Mary Wynne-Jones, seems undeterred by his scarred face and missing eye. Though Mary’s father warns her that her friendship with Sebastian might threaten her engagement, she can’t help her attraction to the dark, dangerous man Sebastian has become. Mary’s fiancé breaks off the betrothal, so Sebastian feels honor-bound to marry her. The middle meanders as Mary competes for Sebastian’s love against his desire for vengeance, but when the over-the-top evil uncle appears, Sebastian is forced to understand what is truly important to him. The conclusion is predictable, but Heath excels at depicting the lovers’ initial courtship and relationship building. (Feb.)

Meet the Author

Lorraine Heath wrote her first story at seven, and it involved a fisherman who fell in love with a mermaid. She has since moved on to writing about sexy cowboys and dashing English lords (and sometimes, cleverly, in the same book!). Publishers Weekly says she is a "master of her craft." She is, indeed, and along with being a New York Times and USA Today bestseller, she has won the RITA® Award, Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, and a Career Achievement Award.

    Awesome read

Lorraine Heath captures the agony, insecurity, anger and longing of the emotionally tortured Duke, Sebastian. Lady Mary is a brave and execptional heroine. I hope we have stories of brothers Tristian and Rafe in future books.

    Well written romance!

This is my first book by Ms Heath. The story was great and developed well. The romance was good but could have been a little better. The main characters Sebastian and Mary were great. I liked Mary devotion. I wanted a more detaied ending into their future like how many children they had, how long they lived etc. I hope she makes this into a series because i would like to know about the other two brothers lives!

    Excellent read

Excellent read, loved the main characters, started out slow and alot of repeats in what sebastian and mary were thinking. I enjoyed the strength and determination of mary and how she stood up for the three brothers in helping them back into the london society. Only one sex scene towards the end.

This book is exciting from beginning to end. I just hope the other brothers get a story of their own.

Love Lorraine Heath's books but Historical COVERS---horrible

I am so tired of almost spilling bosoms and hairless, 6 pack men that are no not right for this period.
One reason I bought a NOOK was to avoid these horrid covers.

This story is a good one---I enjoyed it.
