Keely McKay Donohue is enduring the longest wedding reception of her life: her own. The only saving grace is that Jack Donohue is finally hers. Usually her hunky man gives her everything she wants, so why is her groom denying her the one thing she wants right now?
Jack thought his secretive wait-for-the-honeymoon plan was romantic, until he realizes he’s only put Keely in a fighting mood. If he wants to get back on his temperamental bride’s good side, he’d better find a way to sweep his cowgirl off her boots…fast.

This is a short that doesn't give you much unless you've read the other books. I suggest you read them. She has a way of pulling you into her stories even if you don't like erotica,(skip those parts) she has real life adventures that leave you saying 'I can believe that'. Her men are alpha males, and the women are not pushovers nor do they read like male characters. I started with 'shoulda been a cowboy' and left with a new understanding of how a handicap person might feel. 'Branded as trouble' dealt with recovering alcoholic and how his family didn't trust his sobriety, I never realized that someone would have trouble all their lives after they quit. Her sense of humor is great in my book. I'm pretty sure I have all of her books, :)

Gorgeous, sexy and successful businessman Jack Donohue just married his wild child cowgirl Keely McKay. Keely has finally married the man of her dreams after a very hot and spicy courtship. So why is she not happy? Because all Keely can think of is how long before she can get that sexy man naked, or as the McKays say, "nekkid". Jack, being the wonderfully romantic man that he is, wants to give Keely the ultimate romantic wedding night. Unfortunately his plans call for a 24-hour wait. This does not make for a happy bride. Can Jack give Keely the perfect honeymoon or is that just a wishful thinking??
Keely and Jack are two very strong, very dominant characters who jump out of the pages every time they are together. They make you smile and cheer and you can't wait to find out what will happen next.
Slow Ride is a short story that is part of Lorelei James' Rough Rider series about the McKay/West ranching family. And better yet, it is a free eBook as a gift from the author. Even though it is short in stature it is long in story and carries the same great dialogue and characters. It is just a great read!

Another perfect addition to the Rough Riders Series that Lorelei James has done such an excellent job enhancing with even more books. I just recently finished up this entire series and it was so worth every moment of reading. I highly recommend each of the books in this series.

The Rough Rider Series by Lorelei James currently has 11 books in it. This one - Slow Ride - is a free short story that is meant to describe what happens after Jack and Keely get married. It is a follow-up to the book All Jacked Up. The series is excellent, and goes in this order: 1. Long Hard Ride 2. Rode Hard, Put Up Wet 3. Cowgirl Up and Ride 4. Tied Up, Tied Down 5. Rough, Raw, and Ready 6. Branded as Trouble 7. Shoulda Been a Cowboy 8. All Jacked Up This Free Short Story: Slow Ride 9. Raising Kane 10. Cowgirls Don't Cry 11. Chasin' Eight You don't need to read the books in order. They are all based on a huge family in Wyoming called the McKays. Each book deals with a different couple. Typically they have a ton of steamy relations, then fall in love, then get married. You'd think it would get old after the first book, but it doesn't, because Lorelei James is such a good writer. I agree with the other reviews that this particular short story - Slow Ride - isn't her best work. But if you've already been a fan of the series, and especially if you already read All Jacked Up, then it's a good short story.

Good thing this was free. Not much of a story. The characters personalities were unclear.

For full review including excerpt and dialogue highlight, please visit Reader's Edyn at: ~~~ readersedyn (dot) blogspot (dot) com ~~~ Review: ~~~ ...This novella picks up at Keely and Jack’s wedding. The blushing bride … well that is a terrible description because clearly Keely doesn’t have an inclination toward embarrassment … wants nothing more than to escape her wedding with her husband and get down to having sex hours ago! Jack is nothing but patient, having planned a surprise for his new wife, and is driving Keely to madness. She walks in on relatives getting’ some at her own wedding and that about does it. She then decides to take matters into her own hands to drive her dear husband to madness. So the story follows them from their wedding reception to their honeymoon destination. And I would venture to guess that they lean toward a bit of a volatile relationship at times. Keely knows what she wants and when Jack does not deliver, look out! ~~~ I noticed that some have rated this story low. To them I say, pay attention to the reviews before you buy it then. It was very obvious to me that Slow Ride was part of a series. I read the reviews and I knew this much before cracking the virtual cover. And sometimes, let’s face it, mid-series just doesn’t work. So the lack of story line in this book and the less than endearing characters are described as such only by those who have failed to read the series. In total, I think the story was less than 20 pages. That should tell you a lot right there. I think that this story was intended not so much as a whetting of the appetite for non-readers, but a bit of fun for the readers who are already committed and involved in Ms. James work. Why bash a story because you failed to read the rest of the series first? Seems rude. Therefore, I am rating this story 3 wings because I am on the fence. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. Knowing my personal tastes and tendencies, I believe I would have enjoyed it quite a lot had I read the series first. It is a personal handicap – not one that should reflect on the author – at least not until I read a full-length novel to better judge my thoughts on her work. I will say that as a Samhain author, Ms. James stands a good chance that I will approve. *whispers* I yet to dislike an author from Samhain. ~~~ So for those who have a compulsive tendency toward reading in order, skip this book until you are ready to read it. For those who don’t care and just want a quick, fun, sexy read loaded with characters getting down and dirty, read it. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s stimulating. If you are not into cowboys, romance, and smoking hot sex scenes – you are in the wrong place! I do know that at some point I would like to read the Rough Rider series in order and then read this novella again. I am thinking that my view would likely change. But worry not … I will be sure to let you all know when I do. ~~~ (Digital copy purchased for personal library.)

I understand how this book is confusing to some. But you have to read the rest of the series to actually understand what is going on. I think this book was an amazing addition to the series because we got to see what happens to Keely and Jack during their wedding!

I expected this one to be a really good romance read, and ended up disappointed. There were so many foreplay sex scenes, and the build up was great, but it just ended with no final romance scene.
