These books combine vibrant photography with simple texts and large type-one picture and sentence per page on a white background. Examples in the first title include a flower and a rock, and a boy and a Superman action figure. Illustrations in Light and Heavy and Soft and Hard provide examples that encourage a discussion of differences between two objects that also share similarities (a light toy truck and a heavy fire truck; a soft hat and a hard helmet). The color photographs create depth in the image with enlargement or lighting to enhance detail. Hot and Cold seems repetitious (three out of five spreads compare foods). Pair these books with fictionalized offerings by Eric Carle or Ian Falconer.
