Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Have you ever been outside on a dewy morning and had the good fortune to see a beautiful spider web with the water droplets clinging to it? The picture on the cover of this "Usborne Beginners" book gives an idea of what you would see. The text weaves together lots of facts about a variety of spiders. Readers will learn about habitats, webs, food, reproduction and special features of certain members of the arachnid family. From the largest to the smallest, spiders play an important role in keeping insects under control. Beautiful illustrations, many with up-close views, provide a great look at these creatures that have no bones. The book has a table of contents, glossary, index and refers the reader to Usborne's Quick Links Web site. The back cover lists some Internet safety rules and also has a note for adults. This book would also be a good choice for kids not reading on grade level or those in ESOL programs. 2003, Usborne, Ages 5 to 8.
