Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
“Don’t forget to bring in something for your special valentine,” Mrs. Wimpydimple reminds Splat’s class in this lift-the-flap holiday tale. Instead of panicking, the typically anxious cat draws up a quick solution. Scotton builds suspense through the book’s many flaps: in one scene, the door to Splat’s clubhouse swings open to reveal his friends Kitten and Spike arriving with a gargantuan box of supplies. The project remains a mystery as Kitten sews a “mouse-sized costume” behind a sewing basket–shaped flap, and Splat, concealed by a pile of crumpled paper, works on rhymes. With all the buildup, the reveal of Splat’s red valentine surprise is anticlimactic; since its recipient is Mrs. Wimpydimple, however, the book is a natural gift choice for a child’s teacher. Ages 4–8. (Dec.)

Splat the Cat...one of my 2nd graders' favorites!!

I first bought this book for my 4 year old niece. She made me read it to her right at the book fair before we even paid for it. I had to make up this scratchy voice for Splat. I took it to school a few days later to read to my 2nd graders. They loved the voice I made up for Spat! I love this book and will read it over and over to my niece....Splat the Cat is one of my new favorite characters! Thanks!!!

    So cute!

Adorable book... but why can't they just have a version without interaction for a lot cheaper?

I see a new celebrity in the book world!

What a wonderful discovery! The moment that my daughter and I saw Splat on the book store shelf, we knew that we had to take him home with us. Splat looks like he has the stuff to become a great children's literature character. The illustrations are mezmerizing, the story is engaging, and the lesson was perfect for my preschooler. We read it over and over. We can't wait for the next book and are thrilled to know that one is on the way.

Nook version leaves something to be desired

I like this story and the illustrations in Splat the Cat. However, I was disappointed with the Nook version of this book. This book is interactive, but not like the Seuss books. Two pages are shown at once, making it difficult to read. The illustrations and type are too small in this format. For those who really like this story, I recommend you purchase the real book.

    NOT AVAILABLE ON IPAD APP

Don't waste your money on this if you don't have a nook color. I don't know who's bright idea it was not to make this available for the iPad, but wow, what a joke. At least I know if I buy something using the kindle, I'll be able to use it. Perhaps they should make the 'only available on' section a little bigger or more noticeable. Or even, I don't know, keep track of what devices someone have associated with their account and then warn them if they're purchasing something that they can't even use.
