I was given this ARC for an honest review. After six years as an Army Ranger, Dominic’s army career is ended by three bullets, two in the chest but the worst shot was through his right hand. He’d always planned on returning to his one and only true love, Lily. Despite physical therapy, he is unable to regain the full use of his hand, hence unable to secure what he considers suitable employment. Lily, who has waited years to reclaim her true love, realizes after Dominic’s career-ending move and the fact that he remains across the country, she can wait no longer. When she survives what the police claim a random attack, fear leaves her an emotional cripple. Re-enter Dominic as a body guard. Though she knows he’ll leave again after finding her attacker, she can’t resist him. I found this book entertaining from the first page to the last. The main characters were realistic, dealing with real-life problems, combining action, romance, and humor along with the trials of PTSD. Supporting characters were well developed also and left room for another book without leaving you with a cliff hanger. This story is well written and flows very nicely. I would read more by this author. I’d give it four stars.

Did this series manage to get hotter? This book was a perfect combination of heat, tension, mystery, and did I mention heat? Dominic is summoned home when his long-time love is attacked and needs someone to protect her. Everyone in town is convinced that Lily's attack was random, but she knew in her gut that was not true. She hasn't been able to sleep and is acting a bit paranoid. I love a great reunion-of-high-school-lovers story. Dominic has his insecurities since being injured and isn't sure he's up to protecting anyone, but he just can't leave Lily's side. He was soooo hot. I admired Lily's strength and could relate to her unwillingness to accept help. If you like a bit of suspense and mystery mixed with a hot romance, this is the story for you. I loved the first book, also, and look forward to more in this series. I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review

This book is # 3 in the Second Shot series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. In order for the reader to have complete understanding for this relationship story, I recommend reading the series in order. Dominic and Lily were an item for many years. He left to serve his country. He could not wait to get out of what he felt was the small town to no where. Now, he is back to help Lily. She no longer wants his help. Lily survived a tragedy that would have ravaged a lesser woman. She doesn't want Dominic back on these terms. She wanted him to come to her on his own. Can they learn from their losses and love again? Only time will tell... Such a hot and sweet read. I loved their story. I really enjoy how this series is all connected. Full of great and complicated characters. I cannot wait to read the next installment. ***This ARC copy was given by Edelweiss and its publishers in exchange for an honest review only.

As posted on The Smutty Kitty reviewed by KittyKelly 4.5 out of 5 Licks I love me some Sara Jane Stone! Her writing just pulls me in and grips tight. I love that she writes military inspired characters and she doesn’t just stick to men. She’s written several female characters who served in the military and are battling their own demons. In Stirring Attraction both the hero and the heroine are fighting to get back to some semblance of normal after their worlds are turned upside down. Each suffered their own tragedy while apart from each other. This one tugs at the heartstrings quite frequently. Dominic is having a hard time pulling himself back together after being severely injured while serving overseas. Lily was trying to move on after it seemed like Dominic was not going to be a part of his future, then she was brutally attached while on a jog. Watching them try to support each other and piece back some form of a friendship or relationship was tough. I found myself just wanting to yell at them to get over it and be happy together but obviously that wouldn’t have made for a very god book. lol Eventually of course they figure it out and realize that they need each other and can make it work. Another huge perk for me is getting to revisit old characters and get to know current characters even better. I am super excited about the next book. I was so sad when Josh didn’t get his own story in the Independence Falls series, but it seems so fitting that his story comes in the Second Chance series. I hope Sara never runs out of characters and keeps writing more and more.

Heartbreakingly beautiful, touching story about soul mates, loyalty, trust, love, brokenness and fear, redemption. Dominic and Lily have always loved each other, it just hasn't always been enough, to hold them together. Now back in his hometown, Dominic is trying to protect her from her attacker, but still holds her on the arm's length, and not let her back in his life, in his arms, and in his heart. Lily's heart has been broken so many times, every time Dominic kissed her goodbye. And now she should just let him guard her, keep her safe, and find her attacker, until he leaves her again, and this time, for good. There's so much pain and brokenness between Dominic and Lily. The past, the present, and the wounds in their bodies. The fear of darkness, of new attacks, of getting hurt again, of tomorrow, the future, of being enough, and letting each other down, not being what the other needs and wants, it all boils between them, and keeps them from each other, yet brings them together as well. The complexity of the situation, the possibilities, and the lack of, of future, it all terrifies, and fascinates at the same time. The passion between them is as burning hot as it always has been, their loyalty to each other kept its hold, even though all the years and miles apart. The feelings they have for each other are running deep, they are raw, real, and sincere. But it takes some serious soul searching, growing, acceptance, understanding, and their lives in danger, for them to be able to face the truth, and each other, with honesty and openness about their deepest desire to share their lives with each other. This story goes so deep, the angst and fear are palpable, the love, adoration, and scorching passion Dominic and Lily have for each other is evident and constantly present. I loved their dedication to each other, the peace, the safety their felt in each other's arms, the home they were for each other. So many emotions, so much yearning, as they cherish the treasure they are for each other. Two broken souls finally find their way home, where they can heal and grow together, and support and protect each other in the process. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I fell in love with them, the story will pull you in, and touch your heart. Absolutely fantastic love story! ~ Five Spoons

Dominic was a bit frustrating at times with his need to be more and be able to provide more for Lily to be happy. He didn't understand that all Lily needed to be happy was just him. When and injury ends his military career, he ends any hope for a future relationship with her. Lily was amazing they way she dealt with all the tough situations she's faced in her young life. But when she is attacked, her fear gets the best of her. The need to protect Lily and make sure she is safe is the only thing that gets Dominic to come back home. He has never stopped loving her and I loved the fact that she has been the only woman for him even though they spent a lot of time apart. That is not very common, and I fell head over heels for him just for that alone. It is obvious that they both still have feeling for each other and their chemistry is a strong as ever, but they are both afraid to let go and give into their feelings only to get hurt in the end. Great second chance love story and a nice addition to the series. It is not necessary to read the the previous books, but they do give you a nice background to the supporting characters and future books. I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

Dominic joins the military determined to prove himself. He doesn't want to leave Lily and promises to come back for her. Though he never does and leaves Lily heartbroken. After many years she's finally picking up the pieces when he returns injured and feeling like less of a man. Though Lily is in danger and he's determined to protect her. Lily is easy to relate to and very likable. Her fear of Dominic running off again is very understandable. Dominic is one hottie mctottie that has more than his injuries on the outside to contend with. Both have to overcome the fears and learn to forge ahead with their lives. I felt the ending was a bit abrupt. The story over all was written well and a book I would highly recommend.

4 stars Stirring Attraction was a heartwarming second chance love story. I really enjoyed Dominic and Lily's story. They were two good people who loved each other deeply but life had other plans for them. After Dom is injured while deployed he feels less than and doesn't think he can be the man Lily deserves. He stays away from his family, friends and Lily, thinking they'll be better off without him. Lily is left heartbroken, she knows her heart will always belong to one man but she can't stop living just because Dom has pushed her away. Just as things are moving forward for Lily she's attacked while on her daily run. This leaves her scared and angry as no one believes her that this wasn't a random attack. Her attacker knew her and he's still out there. Once Dom finds out Lily has been hurt he comes back to town and vows to keep her safe. I loved Dom's protective side, even though he had his own demons to deal with he pushed them aside to protect the woman that still owns his heart. He will do anything to have her feel safe again. I really enjoyed watching these two passionate people reconnect and allow themselves to feel again. They were perfect for each other, they had a strong connection and their sexual chemistry was off the charts. Stirring Attraction was well written, the drama not overdone and the characters were both likable, relatable and memorable. From the first page I knew this was going to be a great read, I highly recommend this book.

This is another wonderfully written story by Ms. Stone. The characters are endearing and easy to connect with. The chemistry between Dominic and Lily is magnetic. I love the closeness of the entire group of friends and how they are all willing to help each other in any way possible. This is a heartwarming story with a bit of mystery and humor. One that will grip you from the start and won't let go until you're finished. I can't wait to read Josh and Caroline's story! Highly recommend! Teacher Lily Greene thought her life was on the right track, that is until the man that she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with walked away, and left her to pick up the pieces of her shattered world and find a way to move on without him. Their plan was he would go off to the military accomplish his dreams and then return home to her and they would start their life together, but after he is wounded, his life plan takes a different turn, one that has him thinking Lily is far better off without him. So, she makes an attempt to move on, even dates someone new, but no matter how hard she tries to let go of what they had, her feelings for him still remain ever present in her mind and heart. When she is unexpectedly attacked, her seemly good life, is knocked off of it's axis, and she finds herself struggling to find a way to feel safe again, now more than ever she needs reassurance... reassurance in the form of strong able-bodied Army Ranger who holds the key to her heart! The minute Army Ranger Dominic Fairmore learns that the woman he loves was attacked and left injured, and in need of protection it has him wanting to return home and be with her. The problem is after suffering a life altering injury he made the decision to walk away from her permanently because he thought he couldn't be the man she needed him to be, and they haven't really spoken since. He has spent the last few months alone in his apartment feeling sorry for himself and sulking over the future that he lost, but his friends have had enough, and decide to intervene. They know he is better off returning home to Forever, and figure the only way he'll give in and finally come home is to learn that Lily needs him. She has always been the only woman he has ever wanted to be with, and they all know that he is just to stubborn to admit that walking away from her was a mistake, so they are hoping convincing him to come home and take care of her will finally open his eyes... and encourage him to finally admit that he needs her too! I have been anxiously awaiting for the opportunity to return to this series, and to have the opportunity to get better acquainted with Mr. Fairmore... and I have to say he was WELL worth the wait!!! The minute this brooding alpha walked onto the page I was completely captivated by him, he pulled me into his world and had my undivided attention, and kept me at his mercy right up and until the last page was turned. He completely won me over with his domineering personality, caring nature, smooth and sultry one liners, and unwavering dedication to see to it that Lily felt safe in her world... and had me dedicating a permanent spot in my heart for him. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent with these two, their road to finding their well deserved happily ever after was a little bumpy at times, but I think that is what I liked most about it, love is messy at times, and I think seeing it unfold this way made it have a very authentic feel!! If you like your fairy tales a little of the steamy side, and armed with a few of the military's finest alpha's, dedicated satisfy your every need and desire, then look no further... this series is absolutely perfect for you!! This book is part of a series, but know it’s a stand alone with no cliffhangers. The story centers around Lily and Dominic. These two were deeply in love prior to Dominic’s departure of the town of Forever, in order to enlist and become an Army Ranger. He was seriously injured and is no longer a ranger due to the injury. This has hit him hard , to the point of sending Lily away and feeling useless. Lily, now a school teacher in their hometown, was recently attacked while jogging and is now afraid of her own shadow. Noah, a friend of Dominic and now also his brother in law, contacts Dominic and tells him about Lily. Dominic goes to Lily to protect her but feels he can’t offer her anything more. This story is much more than the plot. It delves with the PTSD effects not only of an assault but also with the PTSD that is so prevalent in our returning troops, especially those that are injured. I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the following one. The characters are all complex , imperfect and wonderful. We are never disappointed when we read a book by Ms

5 - "I'll be out there, watching over you..." Stars! Its no secret that I am a huge fan of Sara Jane Stone’s books, I have pretty much devoured everything that I can lay my hands on by her in the last year or so, and Stirring Attraction continues my high quality reading run with this authors work. We initially met Dominic Fairmore and Lily Greene in the prequel novella Running Wilde which was a quick and sexy introduction to the Second Shot series, Dom is Josie’s older brother and Noah’s best friend, whose story we were given in that novella, and in the previous book Serving Trouble. Dominic figured in the latter stages of that book, in that he was injured whilst still in service, whilst Josie and Noah's story played out. Stirring Attraction takes off a year or so on from that, Noah and Josie are now settled, and Dom is now out of the Armed Forces on medical grounds. He however is far from settled, and is struggling to find a direction or any motivation to move forwards with his life. One thing is for sure returning to Forever, Oregon as he is… Injured and unemployable is not something he even wants to consider. The problem is the woman he loved and left behind is in trouble, and it would appear he may be the only one who truly believes that the threat she is feeling is real. This couple have history, and though they both initially try to deny that their feelings for each other are still there, it doesn’t take long for them both to realize that nothing between them on that front has changed. But Dom doesn’t think he really has anything to offer Lily, he is not planning on staying in town, and Lily is looking for someone that can offer her the whole package. He knew how to find home. And Lily was his. Sara Jane, once again managed to intersperse the suspense aspect into the rebuilding of the relationship between this couple, Dom is grumbly, grouchy an oh so sweet, sexy-alpha, with all the right words, he just forgets to put them together in the right way on occasion. Lily was no shy retiring violet either, and the chemistry between them, rekindled as fast as dry wood on a hot day. "I’ll watch over you. And you can watch over me…" My only niggle, is that I really wish the books were longer, I am a fast reader and I have literally inhaled the books in this series in a few hours, it is totally the author’s fault though, for writing such stellar couples and stories. "Lying in your arms-that’s the safest place in the world." I cannot wait for more, Mixing Temptation, is due for release in September, and I am hoping against hope that Caroline and Josh finally get their story told in this book. ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
