About the Author

Dr. Robert Cornwall has served as Senior Pastor of Central Woodward Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Troy, Mich., since July 2008. He is a graduate of Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Oregon, and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., where he received his M.Div. and Ph.D. in Historical Theology. He has served as editor of the Academy of Parish Clergy’s journal Sharing the Practice since 2007; and he is the author of a number of books, including Marriage in Interesting Times: A Participatory Bible Study (Energion, 2016), Freedom in Covenant (Wipf and Stock, 2015), Worshiping with Charles Darwin (Energion, 2013), Unfettered Spirit: Spiritual Gifts for the New Great Awakening (Energion, 2013) Ultimate Allegiance: The Subversive Nature of the Lord's Prayer (Energion Publications, 2010), Faith in the Public Square: Living Faithfully in the 21st Century (Energion, 2012), and Visible and Apostolic: The Constitution of the Church in High Church Anglican and Non-Juror Thought (University of Delaware Press, 1993).
Committed to ministry in the broader community, he serves as Convener of the Troy-area Interfaith Group. He has also served as president of the Metropolitan Coalition of Congregations (a community-organizing effort in suburban Detroit), and as president of the Greater Santa Barbara Clergy Association. In addition, he helped found Gospel in Action Detroit, a ministry in Detroit that partners the Michigan Region with Rippling Hope Ministries and served as the founding convener of the Lompoc Interfaith Group.
Last, but not least, he is married to Cheryl and father to Brett.

David P. Gushee is the Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and Director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University. Raised in Virginia, he earned his Bachelor of Arts at the College of William and Mary (1984), Master of Divinity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1987) and both the Master of Philosophy (1990) and Doctor of Philosophy (1993) in Christian Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in New York. He has taught for twenty years in fulltime and guest capacities and lectured widely in the United States and Canada as well as in Great Britain, Europe, Australia and South America.
