Part eco-guidebook, part personal memoir and part cultural ethnography, this book is the journey of one woman who made the transition from image-obsessed shopaholic to environmentalist, and managed to achieve Sustainability with Style.
If you've ever considered making environmental changes but don't quite picture yourself as a tree hugger, follow along on Lisa's journey as she learns to live a sustainable life without sacrificing her personal style.
Throughout the book Lisa also includes some cultural and social analysis of climate change barriers that she experienced. After all, the environmental dilemma is not just a scientific one, it's a cultural one, a social one, a personal one and a collective one, and it's important to understand all these elements in order to achieve a sustainable future for us all.
This book is perfect for the new environmentalist seeking a real-life example of green-living, as well as for activists who want to understand more about transitioning environmentalism into mainstream culture.
Lisa Heinze is an environmentalist living in Sydney, Australia, where she has called home since 2004. In 2009 she completed a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney with research on cultural barriers to climate change action. She lives at Manly Beach with her husband (and fellow greenie) Tyler, and you can keep up to date with her latest eco-experiments online at www.lisaheinze.com.
