    Great

A hard start to the book, but what a fantastic concept! Terminator meets Tom Clancy meets Star Trek. I really enjoyed it, and hope we get a few more books in the series. Buy it...you'll like it!

    Good Stuff

A fun read that was somewhat reminiscent of Heinlin. Story moves quickly from the point of view of of the principle character who thinks on his feet...a very Heinlin-esque character. Enjoyed it thoroughly and am looking forward to the (proposed) series.

    Great read

I loved the book and I'm hoping that it will be made into a series. The alien invasion concept is really original and the conflict's resolution was great surprise. The action sequences were really well written.

    Wonderful Read

Great concepts for the use of micro and macro technologies, while giving me thoughts of the relationships between Dragon and Rider in the Pern Series. Definitely worth the time to open this gem. It feels like an excellent foundation for many more to come.

    more from this reviewer

This book makes my head hurt in a good way!

This was a fascinating book. There are many ways to look at the themes in this book. In a way it could be taken to represent opposing aspects of technological development. You have Macros which could be take to represent the urge to always build something bigger versus the Nanos which could be taken to represent the development of innerspace. Another set of opposing aspects between the Macros and Nanos is that the Macros seem to be domineering and destructive while the Nanos seem to take a more symbiotic approach. The book is also a look at how varying types of people interact/deal with the power gained from technology. One could even take this book as a suggestion that being in a relationship helps one cop with such extreme situations as this book describes. I really liked how this book has a lot of depth. Anytime I can read something and my mind stays churning afterwards I am a happy man. While this book is very much a complete story there are more than enough strings left hanging to warrant it continuation in series form. If the author needs any help he should contact me as I have a ton of ideas bouncing around in my head!

    Shallow, teenage level scifi.

Light reading with concepts at the adolescent end of the spectrum. Mediocre descriptions and plot development. Almost nonexistent character development and simplistic scientific concepts. This goes for the first book. I am disappointed by the 4 to 5 star ratings, I think book reviews should indicate an age range for the intended reader.

    Fantastic

The lead character was approachable in an "unexpected hero" role that kept building and building into epic proportions. I can't wait to read more in this series. So many possibilities and directions it could take. So many unanswered questions that could be explored. This was an epic story and hopefully the beginning of a series. Highly recommended.

Don't bother. 1-D characters. Weak story line. Mediocre scifi.

    Fantastic opener to the series

B.V.'s writing style may not be all flowery with multiple different threads of story winding together but it does give me a feeling of a marine writing about marines. It adds to the story. I recommend this book series, its the first sci fi book i have read that isn't either light on the scifi, heavy on the ethical delemma, or over 30 years old.

Awesome! A must read for Sci-Fi lovers!

I really like the way Larson pushed the envelope of the First Contact Genre. The protagonist is someone that you can relate to and the story keeps you hooked the entire time. It would be great if this turned into a series as there are many different ways that the story could be taken. Bravo!
