Overview

Bob Dylan’s first and only attempt at fiction, Tarantula, was written in 1966, but, for various reasons that prevented its publication, it did not see the light of day until 1971. A faithful reflection of Dylan’s best songs from that time period, Tarantula is required reading for anyone interested in his creative processes. The various texts, both in verse and in prose, that comprise this approximation to stream-of-consciousness writing are not exempt from the musicality of Dylan’s compositions at the time, nor from the preoccupations and worries that accompanied the artist during what may very well have been the most important year of his career.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
With Dylan's much-awaited autobiography coming this fall, he's going to be a hot item. Expect lots of hype. The songwriter released this collection of poems and wordplay in 1966, when he was 23. There's not much to it, but it would be good to have a copy. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Tarantula: weird City & wierd Galaxy

This was finally released aroun' 1971 and is a collection of prose poems - items valued often just as much just for sound as for literal meaning. Dylan should still be proud of this up to this very day - it has sight and also insight, visions and images you could feel even tomorry, mate.
