## I'm so mad. I love SEAL stories. I really do. I was so excited that I was loving this story and that I had found myself a new author whose books I could explore....but that wasn't to be. I really did love this story UNTIL about page 180. Had I known what was coming after that, I wouldn't have continued. I would've pretended that was the end. Boy was I disappointed in the rest. It was plain revolting. I found it unnecessary to have gone that far. The rapes, deaths and mutilations in detail were so excessive and needless to this story. It completely ruined this story for me. I will not be buying anything else from this author. Too bad because I really loved 3/4 of this book (hence the extra star).

I'm so glad I happened upon this book, I just wish there were more in the series. Crossing my fingers there are more to come. The depth to these books were brilliant. I love men in uniform books, but find the vast majority lacking. This book wasn't rushed, I felt the emotional connection, and above all else this book wasn't poorly written. Some parts were not for the weak of heart (though I've read worse), but this built a credibility that a lot of books just gloss over. I can not wait to read more from this author.

Really enjoyed this book. The characters are engaging and I became attached to them easily. The story flows well and has some unexpected twists during the most suspenseful moments/scenes. There is mention of some heinous acts, which is necessary to explain a main characters background, but nothing in graphic detail. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Glad BookBub featured Anna del Mar.

'The Asset' by Anna del Mar is book one in the "Wounded Warrior" series. This is the story of Lia Stewart and Ash Hunter. Lia has been hiding out in the Rocky Mountain cabin that her older friend had left for her. That friend happened to be Ash Hunter's grandmother. Lia is trying to hid from a very abusive relationship and is on edge all the time. Lia posted a room for rent sign in town for what she was hoping would be a female room mate but Ash shows up scaring her at first. Ash was hurt very badly in the military and now just up and left the hospital so he is kind of on the run too. Lia end up taking him in after she learns how sick he is and that he was her friends grandson. Lia has a soft spot for wounded animals and Ash seems to fit right in with that. But Lia is having a hard time with her feeling up being scared around him and also scared that he might be put in danger just being around her. This was sometimes hard to read book at the end when Lia went over her previous life. In addition Ash was facing some tough heath issue too. This book does have what I thought was a lot of drama and tough story subjects but that is what I understood what I was getting when I checked this book out. So I was not surprised or disappointed. Sometimes it is nice to get a more drama filled romance than my usually boy meets girl and girl falls for boy...then just a misunderstand holds them back...this was not that type of book. Lia was always scared for her feelings for Ash that he might be hurt by the person from her past. Enjoyed it overall ..exciting read.

I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review. This book was really fast-paced! I swear, from the minute I picked it up, things were always happening. Rarely was there any down time and it really fit the style of the story. I liked that it was fast moving and there wasn't a ton of detail about things that didn't really matter. When Lia and Ash meet, Lia is very hesitant to talk to him, much less let him in her house. And let me tell you, she's got good reason not to trust anyone. But once she realizes that he is a former friend's grandson, she takes a chance and decides to help him. As time goes on, they work with each other to get better, both physically, mentally, and emotionally. Everything comes to head at the end of the book when Lia's worst nightmare comes to life, and this time she has Ash to worry about as well. This is the first book I've read by del Mar and I really enjoyed it. I really liked both Ash and Lia and it was interesting to see how they interacted with each other. I thought it was really cute that Lia is such a lost and broken person, and she takes in stray animals who are injured and have no where else to go. Overall, a really good book; I enjoyed reading it. pagesofcomfort.blogspot.com

Fascinating romantic suspense story, built in a fresh, unique way, giving a different look at the action, and the psychological angle to the terror and dread. The story is told in the first person, from only Lia's point of view. Usually I'm not a big fan of that way to tell the story, but here it was done in a brilliant way, still giving a full rounded picture of the events, but in a rare way, giving a glimpse into Lia's mind, to the fear, horror she had lived through, to the panic and paranoia she suffered from, and to the love and passion, care and adoration she experienced, for the first time in her life, with Ash. Also, the way Lia's voice was telling the story, the reader gets a chilling concept of her previous life in capture. Through her flashbacks, and memories, the cruel, harsh and sadistic handling she received is told in details, and not appropriate for the faint at heart. Some of the twists in the plot comes from the fact, that the reader sees and knows only what Lia does, and surprises for her, are also surprises for the reader. But the suspense is intense, the whole story is wrapped around of feelings of urgency, threat, and deadly panic for the lives of the main characters. The action comes with crimson, bloody, cruel violence, going into details, that will test the reader, taking the story into another level. I want to emphasize the fact, that if the reader has an issue, problem with violence towards a woman, this book might not be for them, no matter how well the matter is dealt with in the story. The romance between Ash and Lia is fragile, because of Lia's past. There's patience, acceptance, caring, adoration, love, and passion. The feelings grow over time, while they both experience the healing of both mind and body within each others care. I loved how they came together, how they found the common ground, the way to communicate with each other, how they fought to survive, and seek more from life. This story goes deep, with both suspense, and in romance. It has a unique tone, it has a different angle, it allures with the twists, it fascinates with the characters and their faith in life, and it makes you take notice with the intense, fiery, violent action. Highly recommend with ~ Five Spoons

Wounded they may but with intelligence, strength, planning and patience both Lia and Ash manage to overcome the odds, begin dealing with their PTSD and find the strength required to move forward positively with their lives. Lia has suffered a past that none of us would wish to encounter. A glimpse of what she has endured is not revealed till more than halfway through the book - and then - only because it is essential that she share it with Ash. What she has endured and managed to survive makes her a true warrior and survivor. Ash has worked his way up in the military and seen action in various places around the world. He has lost friends and suffered injuries that may very well change his live in the future. He arrives on Lia’s doorstep near death’s door and almost leaves…until Neil, his canine companion, steps in. This is an intriguing story of developing friendship, caring, sharing and trust. I loved both characters and hoped they would get their happily ever after. When the men that came to assist Ash toward the end of the story arrived the action intensified and the stage was set for future books in the series. I truly look forward to finding out more about Ash’s business partner, Manny, Will, Wang, Jordan and perhaps others that may make their way into this series. Anna del Mar has a great future as an author if this, her debut novel, is any indication of the caliber of stories she has to tell! Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Press for the copy of this ARC to read and review.
