Meet the Author

His lifelong love of reading coupled with an overactive imagination fueled the creation of Jim McLaughlin's novels. Starting with comic books as a kid, Jim is never without a good book at his side. A career move to Chicago was the spark that ignited the story behind "The James Charade". The economic downturn set in motion the central theme in "The Leveler". "Two Billion Reasons to Kill???" features Burton James, the popular character first introduced to the world in "The James Charade".Born in Iowa and raised in Prairie Village, Kansas, Jim spent the majority of his career in the medical equipment industry, working for large companies before plunging headfirst into the wonderful world of entrepreneurship by starting and selling two successful medical equipment businesses in the Kansas City area. Now retired, Jim spends his time reading and writing. He loves to travel with his wife, is addicted to water sports, is lousy at golf but still likes to play, and spends his spare time in his bead studio where he practices the age old art of lampwork.Jim's favorite authors are Catherine Coulter (catherinecoulter.com), Lawrence Sanders (may God rest his soul), and Robert B. Parker (now writing in Heaven with Lawrence Sanders).

    Word wise

Mostly what I have read from this author is VERY short stories, but this is a true novel in length. All the important characters are fleshed out. The characters thoughts are clearly written, making this an enjoyable book to read. I really like the heroine, she's refreshing. Seeing so many of the supporting characters killed off makes me wonder if this is a stand lone book. The ending gives the impression it could be a new series. I hope to see the heroine in another book by this author. I've already downloaded more by this author. I like his work.

Very timely subject matter considering the state of our economy.

This novel is well developed. The author spins a tale that is realistic and his characters are believeable. I especially liked Beebe Lawless, the female homicide detective. What a perfect name for a cop.

    Amazing book!

I could not put it down. From beginning to end....great pace, great characters. Beebe Lawless was a wonderful and strong female lead character. I think even Eve Dallas would like Beebe Lawless! Again, highly recommended read!!!!!

    Good book

The book definitely kept me going until the end. I found the law enforcement officers in this book not so bright...also the book ended too abruptly for my tastes. All in all it was a pretty good book. It's definitely worth checking out.

    Umm... No?

Wow, this was like dumb and dumber trying to catch the bad guy!! I found myself almost rooting for the murderer because those cops kept making annoying mistakes. If this had cost even one penny, I would have only given it one star. Because it was free and was readable, I will give it three. I would not recommend this book and will not read anymore from this author.
