Overview

Marcus has sworn to avenge his wife's death-even if it takes an eternity to hunt down the vampire who murdered her. Once a Roman Centurion, Marcus is now immortal and, for the past two thousand years, impervious to human emotions. Until the night he rescues Diana...Diana knew nothing of the paranormal world until her transformation into a vampling, a newborn vampire entirely reliant for survival upon the distant and seemingly emotionless Centurion, who found her in the throes of changing. Her protector turned her without her consent, but at his untimely death, she becomes the distant and cold immortal's responsibility. The entire vampire community is determined to kill Marcus as he protects one of their own. While Marcus and Diana travel the Italian countryside, being chased by their enemies, Marcus must choose between avenging his dead wife or saving Diana from the same vampire who ruined his life. Will the power of love win over his desire for revenge? Bewitched by the Amalfi moon, he soon discovers life might still surprise him.

Well plotted out and a different take on the vampire fascination we have been experiencing, I found the Roman history fascination and though there were a few editorial hiccups, not so many as to distract me from the story. A good read

This story was excellently written ! It was a fresh new take on paranormal romances without heavy drippy lovey dove nonsense. It has a mesmerizing storyline plots and underplots of course a bit of passion and not just intimacy here. The passion she wrote into everything their lives the details the struggles and fights sigh...It felt like i was there, I loved it . I will be reading her books from now on a avid fan she has made.

A different and enjoyable vampire / immortal love story. Loved the back story, the great character chemistry, the suspense.....but it ended too soon!! I just wanted to keep on reading.

I have read many books. This one is great. Wish the story was a little longer. Seemed rushed at the end

Of course as romance readers we just eat up those epic love stories and this book delivers in spades! This writer skillfully leads you down this journey, constantly twisting and turning the storyline so that things are never as they seem. I am so thoroughly pleased I partook of this journey! My emotions were soaring on this roller coaster and I never once thought to come off the ride before this amazing writer chose to release me. A book truly worth reading!

Wanted it to go on and on. It ended too soon.

I really enjoyed this book and it's new take on vampires. Marcus was so sweet to Diana the entire book, I loved it. Two reasons I gave it 4 stars. One: the writing was pretty jumpy within scenes, which made it hard to follow. Two: I'm not familiar with Roman architecture or the landscape and roadways of Rome so all of those types of descriptions were worthless to me. Besides that, it was really enjoyable and kept me interested until the end!

While the story started out a little slow for me, I was eventually swept away. I loved the mix of romance, action and history, although like most stories I believe the relationship developed too quickly. All in all, I highly suggest getting your own copy and diving into Rome.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Started off well, the plot was well thought out, and the ending was enough to make me want to read more.

Interesting. Felt the last chapter was rushed and could have been explained better. But all in all I would recommend to paranormal fans.

I could not put it down.

Excellent premise, but poorly proofed. The glaring misspelled and misused words marred what was an innovative and excellently researched novel. Rome and her ancient descriptions glowed.

4.5  ** Not suitable for those under 18 ** If the one you loved was killed, how long would you seek revenge? Marcus is a Centurion and his wife was killed back when ancient Rome, wasn't ancient. Marcus has spent his immortal life seeking for the name of the vampire that killed his wife, but in the progress he comes across a brand new vampire that is on the verge of death. In saving her, he has broken not only rules, but pacts between the two races. The two have an adventure that they did not plan for that night. I have read one or two other works by Monica La Porta, and her writing never disappoints. It flows in a natural flow, the beginning took me a little pit, but then the story grabs you. It was interesting to read the point of view where the girl was the vampire instead of the guy, fresh idea. This is coming from a girl who wouldn't read anything (minus one series) with a vampire in it. The development between the two characters are a natural progress, not an instant love. I would highly suggest anyone who loves paranormal romance to read this.
