I just finished reading some of the nasty reviews of this book and was shocked and disheartened, so I am adding one of my own. I just finished this ibook and was ENTHRALLED. It was another Koontz Masterpiece! I was definitely on the edge of my seat and finished it in record time. I have ready every single Dean Koontz book, and contrary to what others negatively described as "not at all like the other Koontz books before" I found it just as incredible and mind consuming as all his fiction writing. Yes the subject in this particular book is disturbing in content but it is a fictional account of the reality of a very pure evil. Its what Dean Koontz does in his style of fiction and does EXCELLENTLY. This is his style of thriller fiction to a tee. Dean captures describes evil in such a way that all your senses are wide open and you're THERE in evil's very presence and likewise describes good triumphing over evil in such a way that you are undulating with celebration as though you conquered it yourself! I loved this book and it confirms once again for me there is no writer that compared to Dean Koontz. Hands down, there is NONE.

Not the Koontz I grew up with, certainly, but a mighty leap from lackluster tales like From the Corner of His Eye, False Memory and One Door Away from Heaven (all worthy novels, just not Koontz level in my mind). While it is just a short precursor, it goes a long way to getting me help me make the determination to pick up this new novel as soon as it's released.
Creepy and atmospheric, this tale is wonderful reading from a chilly winter's night. A novella truly deserving of the Koontz name.

Had I read the synopsis first, I wouldn't have read this book. I've read almost everything by Dean Koontz and this was the worst. I DON'T like anything about Satanists'or brutilizng children and this story was all of that....don't waste your time.

I found the moonlit mind by Dean Koontz quite entertaining. It is a great quick read, and very curious story. It keeps your interest and has you ready to read Koontz' upcoming novel 77 Shadow Street. I highly recommend this short story.

I enjoyed this novella, I was just sad it was so short! As is typical of Dean Koontz tales, it was an interesting storyline filled with good guys you really care for and the creepiest of bad guys. And it definitely got me primed to read the new novel, 77 Shadow Street.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.12-year-old Crispin lives on the streets with his dog Harley, who has an uncanny ability to guide Crispin out of danger. At 9 years of age, Crispin witnessed the disappearance of his sister and the horrific murder of his brother and now he’s running for his life from his mother and stepfather and a multitude of people who share their beliefs. But Crispin knows he cannot be free until he puts an end to the evilness that resides in his parents’ house.
No author can meet Koontz’s skill at portraying evilness and the characters that do its deeds. As always, there is a heroic dog involved, which this reviewer appreciates, but this time the protagonist is a child instead of the usual adult(s) on the run from whatever deviltry is after them. With great skill, Koontz weaves a suspenseful story made more horrific because it could actually be reality. A tale one thinks can have no happy ending yet Koontz manages to end it on an upbeat note. This novella reminds this reviewer of Koontz’s earlier work, which was so powerful and thrilling to read.

I read this novella because it is the lead in to what the night knows. This is not as exciting and interesting as his other books. I did start reading the next book so far its ok. Will keep reading till the end. I am hoping it gets better.

I love Dean Koontz because he is unpredictable, makes the unbelievable believable and you never know where he is going with it. This does all of that. The wonderful thing about this author is you never know what he is going to write about until he has you hooked. He has wonderful characters and this is no exception. 77 Shadow Street here I come!

If you enjoyed this author's earlier books, you will love this short book. I liked the story and the main characters so much that I tried to read as slow as possible. Unfortunately, the end came much too soon. I hope Mr. Koontz will revisit this story and give us more.

Overview
In this chilling original stand-alone novella, available exclusively as an eBook, #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz offers a taste of what’s to come in his new novel, 77 Shadow Street, with a mesmerizing tale of a homeless boy at large in a city fraught with threats . . . both human and otherwise.Twelve-year-old Crispin has lived on the streets since he was nine—with only his wits and his daring to sustain him, and only his silent dog, Harley, to call his friend. He is always on the move, never lingering in any one place long enough to risk being discovered. Still, there are certain places he returns to. In the midst of the tumultuous ...
