Meet the Author

I'm a native Californian who finally made it back from the East coast. I grew up on a steady diet of Twilight Zone and Outer Limits television episodes, and own an autographed first edition of John Stanley's Creature Features Movie Guide. I love old-fashioned monsters, think serial killer movies are boring, and am still terrified by that stupid rubber squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

    Okay

"The Weekender" is very similar to another story that I had read previously. In both stories, the "creepy bait guy" says "the secret is in the bait" repeatedly. They are so close, that I thought they might be written by the same person (with a different pov in the same town). Maybe not, it has been a few months since reading the other story.

(Some spoilers below. But not really. If you read the story, and have half of a brain in your head, then you figured it all out by page 3. If not, keep reading for answers.)

In both cases, the bait consisted of dead (human) out-of-towners that annoyed the "creepy bait guy" with their demanding big city ways. The phrase: "biggest one yet" refers to the dead man's size as compared to other victims and fish.

It was okay, but I have seen this story elsewhere. Granted, the endings were a little different.

In "Weekenders", the narrator helps kill rude customers with the "creepy bait guy". Therefore, he already knew that the bait was people.

In the other, the narrator secretly sneaks into "creepy bait guy's" cellar, where he finds dead people in the freezer, and becomes bait himself.

Unless it was the same author, or it was an English class topic, then somebody is guilty of copying another author. Plagiarism is not fun.

I am not judging, but it is strange how close the stories are prior to ending. Just thought that I would point it out, since no one else has said it.

    A great short story!

This will make you think before you go fishing with people you haven't met before!

Spoiler: Mr.Lee's stories are very short & to the point. They remind me of the twilight zone. If you like quick, easy reads check out his other stories!

This was a quick 15 page read. I thought it was alright for an around the campfire type of story to tell.

    Creepy!!

I agree with some of the previous reviews about not fishing with strangers. Definitely not the ending I expected. It took me by surprise, but also made me laugh. I enjoyed it.

    An ok read

15 pages so it does not drag out. Reads like an episode of Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits. If waiting in a waiting room for something or a long line, this is a good way to pass the time.
