After graduating from U of M, I took a job in the aerospace industry, in which I still work. I had always dabbled with writing fiction until about ten years ago when I decided to really start learning how to construct stories. Putting a story together, whether written, spoken, sung or on the movie screen is not a random act; it requires attention to both content and presentation. These are the things I hoped to learn and apply by going back to school and seeking out professionals in this vocation. Although I will not claim to come anywhere close to completely understanding the art of storytelling, further learning convinced me that a little education is a wonderful thing.
The choice of my Masters thesis came from a belief that novels have been and continue to be a force in our culture. One does not have to dig too far to see this. I gravitated to detective fiction because this is a very matter of fact narrative form, and if done correctly does not trick the reader. The themes from the best of this genre are provocative and resonate beyond the era in which they were produced. My hope is that readers will read not only for entertainment, but also to learn and ask further questions about why we are what we are.

    Very Good Read!

The fact that the time line was during prohibition makes for an interesting read. It was colorful with some very interesting characters. It was a fast read and one of those books you can't put down. It was not a typical gangster type of book such as others out there, not a lot of blood and gore and no where near the current 'Empire Boardwalk' on HBO. But it was entertaining and I would recommend it.

    A well told story.

The style was straight forward and the characters were well developed. The plot was intricate, with many intertwined sub-plots. He also did a good job using prohibition and the early depression as a backdrop.

All in all, a very good book that I would highly recommend.

Enjoyed the suspense and watching Eddie come to terms with himself. A really good read for those who treasure the classic struggle between good and bad.

    Unable to read . . .

BN couldn't change the print, perhaps you can. My eyesight requires white print on black background and this book has black on black.

    Suspenseful

A book that kept you wanting to read it all in one setting. The author did a great job in making his characters were so lifelike in the time of prohibition.

    I really recommend this book!

A very interesting read. I didn't have high hopes for a 99 cent book but was very pleased. The time of the story and the story line was interesting.

    Compelling story

This story is about a guy who tries to do the right thing but seems to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is a good easy read and the storyline draws you in. Wish it would have continued a little longer left me wanting to know more about the charecters!

A Free Book Doesn't Equal A Quality Book

While I admire anyone who is willing to take the risk to write a fictional story, the e-book I downloaded was so full of misspellings and grammar faults that it was distracting to read. The plot was credible and interesting, but it wasn't until I was several chapters into the book that I realized that the story takes place during prohibition. Very little character development. Disappointing.
