Meet the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

I enjoyed Trougle in Mudbug-(Ghost-in-Law Series). I enjoy mysteries where the characters make me laugh out loud. So if you like Janet Enanovich, C.L. Bevill, Gemma Halliday your will enjoy Jana DeLeon as well.

I just finished reading all 3 books in these series. While some elements are predictable, the characters are loveable and it's fun to try to figure out 'who-dun-it' before the book is over. I recommend starting with the first book of course - but beware, once you read one, you'll want to finish the others!

I came across this book by accident and have read it several times...LOVE it!!! Very FUNNY!!!!! Romance and more laughs this series has me longing for more authors with the Jana DeLeon style of mystery, romance, laughs, southern flare. I have been reading for many years and have never come across an author that had me searching for more like her. Loved it!!!! A must read!!!

It's a fast read; it's very suited for a beach/vacation read. Nothing too deep, if that's what you like, but if you like cute stories this is it for you.

This was a pretty funny book. A little bit of suspense, little bit of romance and a whole lot of laughs. Check it out. It was one of those that I bought just because it was cheap. I was really surprised. It is #1 in a trilogy. Make sure you read the other two.

This was a fun lighthearted read. I enjoyed all three books in the series and really enjoyed the characters. I like stories that give all the characters some personality and would buy more of Jana DeLeon's books to read. It has a great sense of humor and still makes me smile thinking about different parts.

How does an enviromental botanist go from the Louisiana bayou to target and know nothing that could be a motive for her death. She is orphaned, married to a man who left her behind to avoid loansharks and now hunted by someone who has way too much knowledge of her comings and goings. All she wants is to divorce the no-good husband if only she can find him and serve him with divorce papers, have a normal life, cure cancer, and quit seeing the ghost of her mother-in-law. But now she has to stay alive and has only mom-in-law's ghost and a quirky fake psychic friend to help her figure it all out. Great, fun read

Last summer I was looking for a book that would be light-hearted and fun. And growing up outside of New Orleans I looked forward to reading something set around my old stomping grounds. What I got instead was an addiction to Jana Deleon. She makes me cry from laughing so hard at these characters. The romance is an added bonus, but not overly done. I highly recommend Jana's books to anyone I can! Great job Jana!

***read full review at Gin's Book Notes .com*** I knew from page 1 that Trouble in Mudbug was going to be an entertaining read. The opening has our main character Maryse and her best friend Sabine attending Helena Henry’s funeral. Helena was a total witch of a mother-in-law to Maryse and has a personality so strong that even death can’t hold her back.Maryse thinks it a trick of the lights or possibly stress that has her seeing Helena rise up out of the coffin and exclaiming, “What the hell is going on here, Pastor Bob? For Christ’s sake, I’m Catholic”. Poor Maryse soon discovers that Helena is sticking around to wrap up some unfinished business and she is the only one who can help her.  This book is fast paced, funny, and just plain fun.

A good and entertaining read filled with a little bit of everything from humor to mystery to paranormal to romance,  this book has it all. If you are a fan of Janet Evanovich's "Stephaine Plum" series then you will likely enjoy this read.

I read all the reviews on this book and thought, for .99 cents it sounded like a steal. I was disappointed in this book. It was a great idea, and the scenes with the mother-in-law had me laughing, but I thought it could have been funnier. It can stand along or you can buy the rest. Not sure I will.

I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as the author's Miss Fortune series, which I love. I found it very disappointing, and if I could, I'd give it just 2 1/2 stars. This had an intriguing mystery, is fast-paced, and has likeable characters, but the plot was smothered in way too much lust in the guise of romance and relationship angst for my taste. It got boring. and I ended up skimming over much of that. It also contained a long, explicit sexual episode that was totally unnecessary for the story. There is a very entertaining ghost, and this book has some of the wonderful humor of the Miss Fortune series, but the characters are shallowly portrayed, and you don't get the same feel for the small town southern culture. I will probably read the next book in this series to see if it improves, but I don't recommend this one unless you like your mystery covered in cheap romance. Btw, what is with this author and characters needing to constantly take showers and change clothes? JB (contains explicit sexual content, swearing, adultery and infidelity, sex with a minor, violence but no gore)

4 Stars This book was so much fun! I had hoped that this book would keep me entertained at the gym and it did that job so well I found myself listening to it not only at the gym but on my way to the gym and really anytime I was in the car. This book isn't anything serious and was a bit silly at times but it was exactly what I was looking for. Maryse attends her mother-in-law's funeral like any good person would do, even though she is estranged from her deadbeat husband, Hank. Maryse would love to get a divorce if she could find Hank so that he could be served with papers. During the funeral, Maryse sees her mother-in-law, Helena, get out of the coffin and nobody else seems to see it. She is shocked to learn that she has been named in Helena's will and even more shocked to find out what she has inherited. Luc is in Mudbug investigating an anonymous tip concerning illegal dumping in the bayou. He is an undercover DEA agent and moves himself into Maryse's office by posing as a zoologist. As Maryse has one bad thing happen to her after another, Luc realizes that more may be going on than he first realized. This book was incredibly funny at times. I can only imagine what Maryse would have looked like as she talked with a ghost that nobody else could see. The ghost, Helena, became funnier as the book progressed and by the end of the book I just loved her. The situations the characters found themselves were always amusing. I thought the mystery was quite interesting. This book had some twists and turns that I was not expecting at all. There were at least two times during the book that I was absolutely shocked. I love that this light-hearted story was able to keep me guessing. The romance in this book didn't take over the story and I liked the chemistry between Luc and Maryse. I listened to the audible edition of the book and thought that the narration was wonderful. The narrator added to the story. Her character voices were distinctive and the pacing of her speech was wonderful. I think that Johanna Parker was the perfect narrator for this story. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted book. This is the first novel by Jana DeLeon that I have had a chance to read but I definitely plan to look for her work in the future.
