A fresh new look for the beloved series -- set to relaunch just after a brand-new prequel hits stores!

The truth about Stacey is that she has diabetes, a fact she keeps secret from everyone except her new friends in the Baby-sitters Club. But Stacey's condition causes a lot of problems, and she has to miss a lot of BSC meetings. Can she find a solution before her new friends get sick of her disease?

Stacey McGill has a difficult time, because her parents are unwilling to accept the fact that she has diabetes.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Having diabetes turns life upside down for seventh grader Stacey McGill. Hospital stays and numerous doctors' appointments cause her to miss a lot of school. From the onset of her disease, Stacey starts to lose most of her friends. In addition, Stacey's best friend, Laine, ignores her and doesn't want to be around her anymore. However, things turn around when Stacey's family moves from New York City to a small town in Connecticut. When school starts in September, she meets Claudia. Claudia's two friends, Kristy and Mary Ann, plan to form a Baby-Sitters Club. When they invite Stacey to join, she is thrilled. Friends at last! The club works so well because clients need call only one number to reach four baby-sitters. The club meets three times a week and jobs are divided between the four friends. All is going well and the girls are receiving many assignments, until they discover they have competition from the Baby-Sitters Agency. Colorful flyers announce the Agency has a whole network of responsible sitters ages thirteen and up who can work late night hours. Stoneybrook Middle School is in for some interesting capers as the four friends check out their rivals. In the midst of the trials, Stacey travels back to New York for more doctors' visits and renews her friendship with Laine. Back in Connecticut, the Baby-Sitters Club continues losing clients to the older teens until the children speak out against the new sitters. The fast-paced story deals with typical issues which plague middle school students. This book is funny, yet teaches some valuable lessons. Information dealing with the symptoms and complications of diabetes would be helpful for young girls whether they have diabetes or simply know a friend who does. Readers are sure to want to read all four books. Reviewer: Ann Sanger

I loved this book. It tells you all the details about Stacey's ( sickness). Stacey has a secret and needs to be brave enough to stand up to her overstressed parents. A note from me: Turn evil to good. Get inspired. Be admired. Show the world the REAL you.

    Havent read

I am ten and i have type one diabetes. I have had it for two or three years. I take over 1,000 shots a year. I agree it was hard telling my friends i had diabetes. Before lunch i would always have to leave early to take my shot. I finnaly just told my friends why. I am the only person out of over 600 kids in my school to have it. This story looks interesting to read because i know what she has to go through. I hope i could read it soon.

Reviewed by Kira M for Teens Read Too

Having diabetes is the worst thing imaginable, according to Stacey McGill. Her parents treat her like a child. The hospital stays and doctor visits make her miss school a lot, and she loses most of her friends due to them either getting mad that she's not spending any time with them or the fact that they think she's too sick. When Stacey moves to Stoneybrook, she meets Claudia, Kristy, and Mary Anne. When they invite her to join the Baby-sitters Club, she's thrilled! She's afraid, however, that when they find out about her diabetes they won't want to be friends with her anymore. Things become troublesome for the four when rivals come into town called the Babysitters Agency. With the Agency's ability to do late-night hours and having more babysitters, the Baby-sitters Club is worried that they'll have to close up shop. Stacey's plate gets even more full when she starts having to make frequent trips to New York City. With all babysitters needed "on deck" to battle the rivals, Stacey's absences start getting noticed by Kristy and the others. How long will Stacey be able to keep her secret a secret? What will happen when her new friends figure out the truth? A fun, quick story that does a great job of developing Stacey in this series. The author does a great job of balancing Stacey's internal and external problems. The plot is well-done, and the characters are likable. Readers who like realistic fiction, stories about New York, and tales about friendship will enjoy THE TRUTH ABOUT STACEY.

    Stacey is Awesome

Stacey is the best book ever. NO one can read about her without being moved. She is extremely confident/mature for her age yet she is still always popular and well-liked. She is also very smart (but her brother is much better than her at Carmen Sandiago). She loves her black lab and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I only gave this book 4 stars b/c it got kindof slow in the middle when Stacey kept talking about her illness. But you can tell if she was a real person she'd be perfect.

    A MUST READ BOOK!

i thought that it was an excellent book because it's hard not having something that you want! and if your parents don't understand, stacey's life is as hard as it is she doesn't need diabeates to make it worst! but at the end stacey handle everything very well, i'm pround of stacey!

This is the first BSC book that I read.It made a great impression because I got hooked.Stacy really showed bravery. Not that the BSC would betray her any way.But after all Stacys from NY so you could`nt expect any thing less.
