Don DiMarco has a very good life a family he loves, a comfortable lifestyle, passions and interests that keep him amused. He also thought he had time, but that turned out not to be the case. Faced with news that might have immediately felled most, Don now wonders if he has time enough. Time enough to show his wife the romance he didn’t always lavish on her. Time enough to live out his most ambitious fantasies. Time enough to close the circle on some of his most aching unresolved relationships. Summoning an inner strength he barely realized he possessed, Don sets off to prove that twelve months is time enough to live a life in full.
A glorious celebration of each and every moment that we’re given here on Earth, as well as the eternal bonds that we all share, TWELVE MONTHS is a stirring testament to the power of the human spirit.

Why do people feel the urge to write about the whole book?! Just write what you think ABOUT the book. Sheesh you ruin it for people that haven't purchased the darn thing.

By finding acceptance and discovering love, Don Dimarco's initial thoughts about the limits of mortality are transformed into an endless celebration of the beauty of life. Like the pieces of a puzzle being brought to life, author Steven Manchester tells a fantastic, mesmerizing story of a life lived with no regrets.

Twelve Months kept me reading from page one to the last. This book
touched my heart like no other, bringing me to tears and actual sobs.
Steven Manchester’s story will make every reader stop and think with
putting the important things in their life first; living life to the
fullest, loving, and having faith in God. I was pulled into each
character from the very beginning to the end. I couldn’t put this book
down, and became attached not only Don DiMarco, but his wife Bella,
Riley, Michael, Madison and Pudge. In truth, I'm lost for words on how
this book hit me so hard, as it was a told in a voice so real that I had
to keep telling myself that it’s fiction. Great storytelling,
emotional writing, and a great imagination to write this powerful book
with so many lessons in it!

WOW!!!! Comparisons: One of the first publishing houses I started to review for, when I came onto the scene, was The Story Plant for a book entitled Crossing The Bridge by Michael Baron. From that moment on, I have become a fan of Michael Baron and have been introduced to many new authors, which are now on my "TBR authors" list. Just recently, The Story Plant started a program called "Spread The Word Initiative", which I am a reviewing member of. So when the call went out for this title, and the fact that this author was compared to Michael Baron, I HAD to read it. And continuing along the path of comparisons, this book is beautifully written, but at times, was very hard for me to read because of the comparisons to my own life. It triggered memories of my past, so much so that the plot was so engrossing, that it felt as Mr. Manchester was writing portions of my life. The story is told through the eyes of Don DeMarco, a gentleman approximately my age, a family man and newly retired and looking forward to the next chapter of his life. However, that chapter was rewritten in a blink of an eye and turned his world upside down. He now had the choice as to how he was going to edit it and what path the story would take. As I said, Mr. Manchester's writing style and narrative was wonderful. So realistic, with the characters becoming your family. The emotions unequivocally palpable. The settings vivid, but I did have a certain edge, since it took place not far from where I live and encompassed certain areas and establishments that I am familiar with. The composition flowed where it was hard to put down even though the reader knows the outcome. Poignant!! What would you do if you were told you had a year to live? Not only is this novel an emotional read, you can't help but think of how and what you would do if faced with the same situation. Thought provoking! Not only if you were confronted as the main character was, but also those in his life, as a spouse, as a child and as a grandchild. How a real life situation, written with such compassion as a fictional novel, impacting the reader to be put in all of those roles. Impeccable writing!! Mr. Manchester has written, a story that is so moving, heart wrenching and intense, that will bring tears to yours eyes, but able to weave humor into a serious plot, that will also make you cry from laughing. A story that is sorrowful but also soothing. An undeniable heart tugging read that you will not forget and leave you with a feeling of serenity. An extraordinary read!! Not only do I highly recommend this book but would absolutely state that it is a must read!!

until one day you begin to notice some changes in your health. At first,
like most of us, you wouldn't think too about it, probably something
that will get better over time, maybe something you ate, or something
you did. But then over the weeks it wasn't getting better and in fact it
was getting worse. Like most busy people who have too much on their
plate, it might take you awhile to get around seeing your doctor
depending on the severity of your symptoms. So you schedule an
appointment and the news you weren't expecting, was the news you got.
That little thing you thought was nothing, that perhaps taking a pill
might remedy, turns out to be your death sentence and now the only thing
you can do is find a way to "live" for the next 12 months of
your life. What would you do? Now you have the premise of the latest
novel by Steven Manchester, Twelve Months. In this novel that is exactly
what happens and we, as the readers, get an inside look at how just Don
DiMarco deals with his devastating medical diagnosis and how he chooses
to spend his final twelve months of life. I received this novel, Twelve
Months, compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours and The Story Plant
publishers for my honest review and I think it does a great job at
defining for most of us, what we would potentially do in the same
predicament. I know for one, it would seriously make me take a hard look
at the choice we've made up to this point in our lives and look at what
we can do in just a years time to potentially change some of them,
restoring broken relationships, taking those vacations we already
dreamed of but never found the time, reliving favorite moments from our
pasts, and truly doing something that others will remember us by.
"I've learned that anyone can change the world; you just have to
start with one person at a time. I've also learned that not caring what
other people think of me has allowed me the energy to focus on what I
think of myself. For me, life is like looking through a kaleidoscope.
With every turn, a different view will be brought to life. "I've
taught my grandkids that good things come to those who wait, but great
things come to those who go after it; that a gift within is meant to be
shared or else it wouldn't be a gift; and no matter how large or small,
everybody's problems are enormous to themselves. Though the list goes
on, the most important thing I've passed on is that life can be a
beautiful dream, or a living nightmare. It's all about your attitude -
your perspective. But I didn't always see things this way..." (pg.
22) I think everyone needs a great book like this sometimes to
challenge us in our lives because we've grown too complacent, and take
the little things for granted. This book shakes you up and makes you
realize it's time to wake up and see things with new eyes. God didn't
create our lives for us to waste them waiting on His return but to have
a life and an abundant one. I think this novel does just what the author
intended to show us what we are missing before it's too late! I think
this one rates a perfect 5 out of 5 stars!

daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Now he suddenly learns he is
about to lose all because he has terminal cancer. Heads up - most
stories in this mode have a definable morbid mood present below the
surface. That mood is noticeably absent in this story about a brave man
who begins how to love life and the relationships that have blessed it
so far and continue to do so! So Don, and his gracious wife assisting,
begin a new life, planning and living Don's "bucket list."
First, he woos his wife again and romances her to a new wedding. This
is followed by traveling to places he always wanted to visit, things
like car racing and other exciting adventures that the couple embraces
and so much more that are the heart of this joyous story. As the
disease progresses, it doesn't slow Don and his wife down at all. As
well as doing pleasurable things, Don recognizes the need to forgive and
acts on it in a scene that could go wrong just as much as it might turn
out perfectly beautiful. Most of all, he makes sure to speak truth to
all he knows, leaving a legacy that is more about his realization of
what really matters rather than just seeking to be egotistically
remembered. Twelve Months is a beautiful, heart-warming, and necessary
read for all, especially those caught up in the monotonous schedule of
work, food, TV (or other techno gadgets), et al. Steven Manchester
writes about life as it really is and really could be! Terrific!

Many need a "wake-up call" before they begin to legitimately live their lives. Thanks to Steve Manchester and his poignant tale about Don DiMarco, Twelve Months gives readers the ability to step above the daily chaos that prevents them from asking the important questions. Readers will be encouraged to answer the questions instead of avoid them in fear-- a relief that is rarely experienced, but will be after reading this book.

Steven takes an in-depth look at one man's life and turns it into an examination of all of our lives. Humorous, sad, joyful, touching – every page can elicit a tear of sorrow or joy.

Not what i had expected. Maybe I had unreasonably high expectations for this book. I liked it well enough, but wasn't captured by it. It felt like I was reading a fictional memoir in parts. The chapters were joined enough to be continuous, but disjointed enough to feel like each could stand on its own. I didn't sit up at night gripped to the cover in order to see what was going to happen. It was entertaining, but the message that I felt I should be getting from the book just wasn't there. The content did stimulate my mind to think about what is truly important in life. I didn't identify with any of the characters well either (perhaps because I've not experience the sort of turmoil associated with the news of impending death). I found the descriptions of the events in the story to be good, and even realistic. I could visualize this person doing these things, but i didn't feel connected to him. I really wanted to feel something more and understand him on a greater level. Full disclosure: I have been provided a copy of the book for the purpose of providing a review; however the opinions presented are my own and not influenced or dictated by publisher or author.

My Review: Wow! Just Wow! This was one of the most emotional books I have read in years! Okay now that I have that out of the way, let me talk about the book and my experience with it. When I first started reading it for some reason I could hear Paul Harvey's voice narrating it, I don't know where this came from but that was what I heard (I kept waiting for "And now you know the rest of the story"). Then by not even a quarter of the way through the book I had already had a few laughs, some cringes and then of course about twenty pages of sniffling and tears. There is so much that can be taken from this story (in fact I book marked several pages and highlighted lines) about family, love, caring for others, making peace and what means the most when time is short, but I think what I will take away most from this story is Bella. I can only hope and strive to be even half the wife that she was, the strength, love and support she radiated throughout the story was amazing. I hope that you will all give this book a chance, I think it is one of those books that could mean something different to each person who reads it.
My Rating: I really can't say enough about this book, it was an inspiration. I really hope you will get a chance to read it! I give it a rating of Four Paws and a Stump Wag!

I need a book that grabs me right from the start. I don't want to have to wait to be impressed or to care about the story and/or characters.

Don DiMarco has a purpose, and that purpose is one we could all study and relate to…if we were short timers here on earth. Aside from basing our lives' paths on our expected lifespans, this story teaches how to live life in the now - without waiting. What is there to wait for? Why do most of us put off those trips, those experiences, the relationships…and most of all, the forgiveness that needs to be given and sought? Probably the underlying tendency to unconsciously assume we are invincible. Well, regardless of whether that is true…this story was heartwarming, sad, happy and adventurous, as well as filled with loving kindness and a new found realization of faith. And, although I cried with abandon towards the end and had to put the book aside to collect myself before finishing it, it was well worth the ups, downs and bittersweet ending. And, my tears were not all for the bitter portion of the ending…they where also shed for sweet, happy discoveries and a life very well lived.
