Everything's bigger in Big Sky country, including the hearts of the Montana Men

Wide open sky, rolling green hills . . . Gillian Tucker could get used to life in the country—one far from the violence she left behind in San Francisco. Warily accepting an invitation to the Montana ranch that belongs to her grandfather, a man she's never met, Gillian hopes this is the haven she seeks. A sexy, overbearing cowboy who shines a light on her well-hidden dreams is not at all part of her plans.

Blake Bowden's reckless past is far behind him, and as a newly named co-owner of Three Peaks Ranch, he's not taking any chances. Until a beautiful, haunted woman arrives, igniting a desire he shouldn't feel. His partner's granddaughter is strictly off limits. But the longer Gillian's there, the stronger the pull grows between them. And when a new danger surfaces, Blake will do anything to keep her safe…even if it means risking everything for her heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Ryan excels at whipping up totally sympathetic characters. That’s why it is no surprise that even though petite Gillian Tucker kills her father at the start of the second Montana Men entry (after At Wolf Ranch), she stands out as a truly likable heroine. Rancher Blake Bowden finds her downright lovable from the moment she arrives at Three Peaks Ranch in her ’57 Chevy, younger brother Justin in tow. Caution is the order of the day, because Gillian is badly damaged both physically and emotionally: the former after a fall from a second-story window, the latter thanks to her abusive father. Life has dealt Gillian a very bad hand indeed, and she wants nothing more than to stay at the ranch, earn her keep, and mend. As romance builds between Gillian and Blake, she also has to keep a pushy ranch hand at bay. Readers who enjoy strong women and tough men will relish this story. (Mar.)
RT Magazine
“Ryan tells a touching story…the novel unfolds into a delicate romance that becomes something intensely sexy as Gillian discovers strength she never knew she had in the arms of a man who wants to keep her safe.”

To date, this is by far my most favorite Jennifer Ryan book. I have always loved to read her books, however this one just captured my heart. Fell in love with the two main adult characters and the little brother also. Many Thanks Jennifer Ryan for a well written book.

I have read some of the reviews with mixed emotions. What I took away from this amazing book is heart warming wonderfully written book. We all know when we start a book that we may take a lesson or two from the book. I don't usually post a review but I could not pass on the chance to comment on this book. there is so many things to be said about this book. Its heart warming and it shows there are good and caring people in the world. What an amazing woman. The love she showed for her brother no words can describe. I have liked all of Miss Ryans books, however this one I love!! What a great job..

(Reviewer's Note: This story deals with domestic abuse and attempted rape. Please take this into consideration before reading further or purchasing this book.) I'm at a loss for words right now so just...give me a minute to try to gather my thoughts. *deep breath* Okay. Here we go. It wasn't so much the abuse that Gillian and her brother Justin suffered or the end their father met. The ugliness of human behavior when under the influence of drugs and alcohol is shocking enough in real life. When it's written into a story where pictures aren't readily available and the reader's imagination is left to paint those pictures, it's just as shocking. And incredibly saddening. The condition their father was in was horrifying. His behavior toward his daughter was despicable. Her reaction, her defense of herself and her brother, was warranted. I didn't feel an ounce of sadness or sympathy for the bastard when she shot him. I wanted him to suffer longer for all the hell he'd put his children through, especially since his final act was to toss his only daughter from a window. Too many years living with such a parent left Gillian and Justin broken physically, mentally and emotionally. Their father's death brought relief to their hellish life. But it left them hyper-aware of men and their actions, left them emotionally distant, left them unable to see the good in others without proof first. But at Three Peaks Ranch, they found a way to heal, to become strong again, to trust and love others again. Gillian's relationship with Blake wasn't what drew an "Aw!" from me. It was how he helped her heal. He didn't push, didn't press, didn't demand more than she was willing to give. As much as he wanted her, he waited for her. The wait was worth it because by the time they admitted they were on the same wavelength they were ready. Their love for one another had grown and all that was left to do was admit it and act on it. Their first time together spoke volumes of how much they wanted, needed, and love each other. It's the kind of love that proved what they had was right even if it happened fast. This story isn't short but it isn't filled with fluffy material. It's deep and moving, emotional and relative. I cried, laughed, applauded and cheered. I hated and loved, smiled and frowned. I don't know if you'll feel or experience these things, but I hope you do. And even if you can't say you relate, I know someone out there will. If that's you, I hope you see this story as a lifeline and I hope you see that it will get better. It just takes time but I promise it will. 4.5* (Received from Edelweiss via Tasty Book Tours for an honest review)

Every book by Jennifer Ryan is exceptional.. This one breaks your heart-- makes you smile--- has you pulling for the good guy (and he is a good guy) and at the end you cheer.. that sometimes good guys finish first-- not last. I loved it. And the attention paid to the little brother is heartwarming.

I had a few reservations about book I but none whatsoever about this book... Loved every page and my heart broke and soared again as the story unfolded... Gillian, age 20, was the product of an alcohol drug infused marriage and with her mother gone she was left with trying to raise her 6 year old brother and handle her out of control father.. After his death she, badly injured, takes Justin to live with unknown grandparents on a ranch in Montana... Ever fearful and on guard her only concern is protecting and taking care of her brother...Blake, son of neighbors, is a partner with Gillian's grandfather in the ranch, and with Dee, granddads wife, are all determined to bring happiness and safety into these two lost souls who have known nothing but cruelty and poverty... Blake, 28, is taken with Gillian's beauty and the sadness that surrounds her... There is of course a bad guy in the story and a connection to the characters in Book I as well...A well done path to the HEA... This book I loved and recommend to all... Now looking forward to Book III..

I loved this installment in Jennifer Ryan's Montana Men series. Gillian may have gone through a lot but she's not simply a damsel in distress. She is strong, resilient and loving, and Blake is all cowboy. This one begins with a bang, is full and tender in the middle, and ends with Ryan-style high drama.  Can't wait for HER LUCKY COWBOY!

Very predictable plot. Note to author: Lilacs and roses do not bloom at the same time.

A story that will just tug at your heart from beginning to end. Gillian and Blake have a lot to work through with so many things that could stand in their way. I loved the story, the characters (accept for Gillian's parents) and Gillian's drive to protect he little brother. A great second book in the series and can't wait for the next book.

Don't understand all the good reviews. They must have read a different book than I did. I did not like either of the main characters. They were both just too perfect to be even close to believable. All the secondary ones were too. The dialogue was cheesy, and the description of what a strong , wonderful person she is , well ,I just got tired of reading it. Tell us once , maybe twice , but not a hundred times. And any man who loves someone like Blake loved Gillian , would not have let Ken stay around like he did.

Outstanding addition to the series. What Gillian had to go through to keep herself and her brother safe at the beginning of the book was heartbreaking. She deserved everything after and then some.

When It's Right starts off so tragically, but ends just right. Gillian is so broken in the beginning, but with the love of her family and Blake, she slowly heals both physically and emotionally. Blake is so patient and gentle with her, you can't help but fall in love with just a little bit.  Wonderful story about the healing power of love.   4.5 stars ARC via Edelweiss
