A Year with Jesus, the primary focus is to allow the scriptures that contain Jesus' dialogue to uniquely speak to the reader. The author follows each reading with insights and applications to help explain the context and nuances of the text. The unique titling of each meditation and the nontraditional themes and organization help bring Jesus to our daily lives. Too many times the impact and grandness of the actual words Jesus spoke, as recorded in the Bible, are lost in the telling of the story. This is a description the author gives of this book, which this would have been true for me if the author would have actually written the book as stated. The scriptures in the book are from the Old Testament as worded in in the preface of the book. You can read by different topics or as a devotional day by day. Some of the topics are: Love and Hate, Truths and Lies, Friends and Enemies, Belief and Disbelief, Patience and Impatience. As I skipped around to some of these topics in the book, I began to notice the author contradicting himself in a few of the reflections after the scripture. This turned me off right away, but that is just me. I got the feeling the writer was not well educated in the word of God, either/or the author has doubts that the bible is actually God's word. His beliefs and my Christian beliefs became very different about half way through this book, so I have to be honest and say that everyone is different, and I believe you will have to read it for yourself, because everyone has different beliefs. I received a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing it.

“A Year with Jesus” is a 365-day daily devotional by R.P. Nettelhorst. The book is divided into 10 sections of themes many people could relate to, for instance, “Love and Hate”. This daily devotional includes direct quotations from Jesus’ teachings from the four gospels in each day, which is important because we should always pay more attention to the Word of God, rather on the commentary.
This book was an interesting read. It helped me look at some passages from a different light. The author was able to present the Scriptures in a way that is easy to read, but still true to the original text. I would recommend this book to people who are seeking a little help the Gospels.

As Jesus walked and visited several different places to preach and spread the word and teachings of his Father, this book has been written to remind us of these on a daily basis. Using the stories and excerpts from the bible the author explains the meaning of the parables. Each individual day has its own teaching to help understand why situations arise in the way they do and through the teachings how we can deal with these not only to enrich our lives but everyone we come into contact with, a 'thought of the day'.
The author explains the passages in plain English and with very up to date examples to compare Jesus' tests to ours today. The book has been cleverly broken down into separate sections dealing with individual topics and using the bible translations reminds us of how and why we are here and how a simple message or act of kindness can not only lift our spirits but can also enrich our soles.
I found the book to be inspirational, to be read not only when I felt down, but to gain confidence and clamness in dealing with everyday situations. In order to fully appreciate this book and to gain maximum satisfaction from it you need to re-read it and keep it close to hand.
The authors indepth knowledge and understanding of the bible really shines through and is well written, an inspirational book full of hope and faith, which if you allow it, will uplift your spirit and inspire you to be an all round better person.

This book was pretty good. I enjoyed the fact that I could read a page a day to learn more about Jesus and his teachings. It was great to read about ways I can improve my life to become more like Jesus. We don’t make enough time for our Lord and just reading a page a day is enough for somebody to have time to worship him. This book is for anybody who is need of a spiritual time with Jesus.

Each page (day) holds a different bible passage and a short explanation of its meaning, and in some cases, how it applies to the reader and their relationship with GOD and his son.
Review:
Forget the little devotional desk calendars, A Year with Jesus is the new way to get close to the Lord with daily bite-sized bits of the bible. This book isn't just a random collection of Christian bible quotes, but a ten-sectioned journey through the words of Jesus Christ Himself! Topics discussed include: Love and Hate, Truth and Lies, Arrogance and Humility, Friends and Enemies, Belief and Disbelief, Patience and Impatience, Deserved and Undeserved, Good and Evil, Fidelity and Treachery, and lastly, Life and Death. This is a very complete devotional covering a good amount of the New Testament, and is written in a down-to-earth simplistic manner; great for those who want to bring a quick shot of faith into their day. Overall, I am very impressed with how R.P. Nettlehorst set this book up, and how it manages to make the reader feel closer to their Savior.

RP Nettelhorst's "A Year With Jesus" is an awesome devotional! I had never heard of Nettelhorst prior to receiving this book, so I really wasn't too sure what to expect, but I LOVED this devotional. "A Year With Jesus" is an entire year of devotionals, each one only taking up about one page of the book. Obviously, each message is short, but I felt like Nettelhorst really packed a lot of important things into each page of this devotional. What is different about "A Year With Jesus" is that the bible verses that are the focus of each devotional are all words that Jesus spoke in the Bible, which makes this devotional feel like it is giving me more of a connection with Jesus, and I really felt like I was getting more out of these simple, short devotionals that I have gotten out of longer, more in-depth ones in the past. I am planning on buying this devotional for a Christmas gift - it was that awesome! I would give this devotional 5 stars!

I spent most of the weekend reading this book. I love how easy this book will work our family's devotionals. We love to have scripture study right after dinner at our table, and this will work really well to use through the coming year. Each day is not too long, which will work nicely with our children, but it does provide enough for a good Gospel discussion.
Each day covers one bit of Jesus' words and then a thought to go along with it. I think the author did a wonderful thought-proving job to reflect and bring Jesus into your homes and thoughts each day! I will admit, however, I was very disappointed that the King James Version of the Bible was not used throughout the whole book. But we have decided to read the daily section from our scriptures, rather than the book, and then open the book for the authors thoughts.

This is a devotional that focuses on the words of Jesus as they relate to specific themes believers encountered in His time and continue today. I like the format of each daily entry that includes a passage from scripture, followed by insighful applications by the author. The book is divided into sections to address specific topics such as Love and Hate, Truths and Lies, Arrogance and Humility, and Patience and Impatience, to name a few, and all leading the reader to what Jesus had to say about them.
I like that this devotional has readings for each day that are brief yet have enough substance to challenge me to think more about what Jesus intended the hearer to understand whenever he spoke.
