Jack Kerouac
Jack Kerouac was one of the famous American authors to participate in The Beat Movement in the 1950's. The Beat Generation rejected conventional values like marriage and working full-time, seeking instead to obtain the touted American dream. Kerouac's most famous novel, On the Road, is based on his own travels with friends across America. Set shortly after The Second World War, this widely read book is about young people refusing to take part in conformity and instead indulging in a life fueled by music, drugs, and poetry. Written largely in prose-poetry, the book can be a challenging read for some, but it is a piece of art and certainly worth the effort. Jack Kerouac's other bestselling books include Big Sur, The Dharma Bums, and Desolation Peak.
