6 Great Romances Set in Montana
There’s something especially romantic about a love story set in Montana. Maybe it’s the idea of big, open skies, cowboys, fresh air, cowboys, lots of greenery, and cowboys. Oh, and cowboys, or at least cowboy-type guys who ride horses, look great in jeans, wear flannel, and have a soft spot for animals. There’s also this idea of Montana being vast and quiet; a place where a couple can really take the time to get to know each other, in both the literal and biblical sense, because, well, chances are they live in a bit of isolation. They have more space in which to focus on their blossoming romance.
Plus, Montana stories often feature hot cowboys.

Her Montana Christmas Groom, by Teresa Southwick
This sweet romance, which is part of Harlequin’s Montana Mavericks series, features a 30-year-old heroine and her awesome sauce 24-year-old love interest. Rose Traub has dated quite a few of her town’s eligible bachelors with no luck. (It’s gotten so bad that her brothers dare her to put a temporary halt on her dating activities.) But Austin Anderson has other plans. He has a reputation in town as being quite the ladies’ man, and he’s tired of it. He wants Rose, and everyone else, to take him seriously as a contender for her heart. Good for you, buddy! And major kudos to Southwick for creating a spunky female lead who nabs a younger guy!
The McCords trilogy, by R.C. Ryan (aka Ruth Ryan Langan)
Montana Legacy, Montana Destiny, and Montana Glory feature the McCord cousins, three hunks who were raised on their grandfather’s ranch. Jesse, Wyatt, and Zane each followed their own paths in life, and they reunite after their grandfather’s death. They soon begin a quest for some long lost family treasure. In the process, they each fall for a strong woman who keeps them on their boot-covered toes. One reconnects with The One That Got Away, another meets someone new, and a third connects with a single mom. Three hunks and three unique story lines AND a treasure hunt? Yes, please!

Montana Sky, by Nora Roberts
This story is by far one of Roberts’ best! A not-so-great man who fathered three half-sisters dies and leaves them his thriving Montana ranch. Sounds peachy, but until his death, none of the women had ever met each other. The will states they have to live on the ranch and run it for one year, together, before they can each part with their share of it. (Hint: They would each get A LOT of money, which makes it VERY hard to simply walk away!) Squabbles and misunderstandings among the three will happen before sisterly affection and love take their place. Oh, and of course, each woman falls for her own one-of-a-kind studly guy. You can’t beat getting three well-developed love stories in one book, not to mention a heartwarming story about three sisters coming together.
The Montana Creeds series, by Linda Lael Miller
There are seven books in this series, and the first three specifically take place in modern-day Montana. Logan, Dylan, and Tyler are three estranged brothers who return home to Stillwater Springs. Each one is loaded with his own set of baggage and issues. They’ve got to work out their problems with each other, and they’ve also each got a special lady catching their respective attentions. Two of them get it on with single moms, and one of them is a single dad, so they obviously have hearts of gold beating beneath those angsty, macho, heartbreakingly muscular exteriors. Gotta love it when three dudes manage to reconcile AND get their love lives in order!

The Montana Way trilogy, by Jeannie Watt
The story lines in Once a Champion, Cowgirl in High Heels, and All for a Cowboy feature women with cool jobs taking charge of their lives and creating brand new starts for themselves. There is a city girl who could benefit from some fresh air, a newly-single woman whose fiancé just called off their wedding, and a woman whose heart is in need of a little TLC. Battles over horse ownership and ranch upkeep are just a couple of the conflicts the characters go through that help keep the story interesting. Oh, and there might also be a pregnancy thrown in there for good measure. Nothing these ladies can’t handle, especially when they’ve each got a local Montana cutie vying for their hearts!
Montana, by Debbie Macomber
Molly Cogan needs a change of scenery. Raising sons on her own is NOT easy, so when she finds out that her grandfather is sick and wants her to return home to his ranch in Sweetgrass, Montana, it’s practically a no-brainer. She packs up the young ones and moves them. She soon meets Sam Dakota, who works on her grandfather’s ranch and, well, stirs up some very interesting emotions. But Sam might just be too good to be true. The local sheriff doesn’t like him, so that’s got to mean something, right? (Hint: Maybe not!) Can’t beat a story that features a hardworking woman who catches a break!
