6 Picture Books About the Joy of Giving

6 Picture Books About the Joy of Giving

Several years ago, I set out on a giving spree by providing 35 acts of giving in 35 days. It was life-changing, and my two little ones tagged along for as many acts as possible. They squealed with delight as we bought coffee for the person behind us and loved packing up care packages for troops overseas. Teaching kids the value of giving (and not just receiving) is so important, but it is through participating in the act that they can really start to grasp this concept. While it is not always possible to take preschoolers and young children out into your community to give to others—because let’s face it, the idea of a toddler with a hammer and nails at a volunteer home building site sounds like a disaster—it is possible to immerse them into a scenario through books. These stories provide kids with an opportunity to hear and see generosity in action.
