8 Children’s Book Characters We’d Love to Be Snowed in With
When you’re a kid, being snowed in is pretty much the greatest thing ever. No school, no homework, unlimited hot chocolate and snacks, and your parents will do pretty much anything to keep you out of their hair! But when you’re a parent, being snowed in loses its appeal fairly quickly. Especially when you’re the one fixing all of that hot chocolate your kids beg for (but no one actually touches. What is with that?!). You’re trying to make sure you don’t run out of peanut butter, you’re tired of picking up toys and books, and you’re over all of that close family bonding time with your kids. Cabin fever is real, and no fun.
But there are a few characters we’d all like to be snowed in with, right? Especially fictional characters, and especially those from our favorite children’s books. I’d even be willing to put extra marshmallows in the hot chocolate for any of these eight delightful individuals.

Mary Poppins knows how to keep the kids in line, entertained, and probably learning something, which is why she is welcome in my house any day (but especially on a snow day).

Biscuit is not only a classic children’s book character, but he also happens to be an adorable little puppy. Just picturing him romping through snowdrifts, running around confusedly trying to fetch snowballs, and getting snow caked all over his little face is like drinking a warm mug of hot chocolate…with your heart.

Fred and George Weasley (Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling)
It doesn’t get much more fun than the Weasley twins! Get ready for pranks, laughs, and an all-around good time when Fred and George are around. Just mind your credit card, lest you later discover that they’ve used it to place a giant online order at Zonko’s Joke Shop.

Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl)
This one is because he might have candy in his pockets, and also because he’s a little weird. We could all use a little weird when we’re trapped indoors all day. Plus, if you’re extra good he might help you hang some lickable wallpaper.

Peter (The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats)
Anyone who’s been snowed in knows that there comes a time when you are officially over it and begin daydreaming of bikinis, hammocks, and sand between your toes. That’s why Peter is the perfect character to be snowed in with. He’ll help bring all of the wonder and magic of a snowy day back to you.

Mouse (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond)
Sure, Mouse may be one of the most exhausting characters ever, but he also has some excellent ideas. Cookies totally need milk, milk totally means checking out a mustache, and so on and so on. No one will be bored during a snowstorm when Mouse is around. And if you give him a tiny shovel, he might dig out your car.

Margaret Simon (Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, by Judy Blume)
For those moments when you can’t handle one more game of Candy Land, Margaret Simon would be wonderful to chat away with while the snow falls outside. Talk about your ideas on love, relationships, growing up, and ask the hard questions without feeling judged. Basically? The Margaret is the perfect BFF to spend a cozy day with.

Roald Dahl is representing in this list, but that’s because he creates so many fantastic characters. As for Matilda: She’s going to bring books, you guys. That’s all you need to know. Plus, when you’re ready to take a cookies and hot chocolate break, this girl has some great stories to tell.
