6 Wicked Cute Picture Books About Boston

I was born in Boston, and therefor no matter where I live I am always a tried and true Bostonian (and Red Sox fan!). Boston is one of the greatest and oldest US cities, filled with history, parks, art, culture, and of course baseball. For those who love Boston, or want to go visit one day, check out these wicked fun picture books that will introduce your young reader to this amazing city!

Journey Around Boston From A to Z, by Martha Day Zschock and Heather Zschock
This alphabet book takes the reader on a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated journey through Boston and its history, ranging from Abolitionists to Minutemen. Although it’s an alphabet book, it’s actually great for older readers who are interested in learning more about this history-rich city. (Parents might learn a few facts as well!)

Boston Red Sox ABC, by Michaelson Entertainment
Any diehard Red Sox fan (and really is there any other kind?) knows that it is never too early to introduce your young baseball enthusiast to the team! This adorable board book combines both baseball and ABC’s, so it’s educational in more ways than one! Play ball!

Good Night Boston, by Adam Gamble, and Joe Veno
“Good morning, Boston Harbor and lighthouse. Are we ready for a wonderful day?” Yes! You’ll get to see all of the famous sights in this book from the Boston Tea Party ships to the Museum of Science. A great bedtime read, and hopefully your young reader will be so tired out from taking in all the attractions that they’ll be asleep by the last page.

Larry Gets Lost in Boston, by Michael Mullin and John Skewes
Adorable puppy Larry seems to get lost a lot in this fun series (from New York to San Francisco) but he always finds his way to the next adventure. Personally I think getting lost is one of the best ways to explore a new city! Try and keep up with Larry and his owner Pete as they dart past all of the sights—like Fenway Park and Boston Common, to name a few.

Make Way for Ducklings, by Robert McCloskey
This Caldecott Medal winning children’s book, set in Boston, is a classic for a reason. Any parent who has searched for the perfect place to raise a family can relate to Mr. and Mrs. Mallards’ quest for the ideal home for their ducklings (in their case they end up finding a lovely place in the Charles River). The ducklings march in a line around Boston—giving readers a nice little tour through iconic illustrations I still remember from my childhood.
Catie Copley, by Deborah Kovacs and Jared T. Williams
This book is kind of like Eloise meets Lassie at the Copley Square Hotel! Catie is a guide dog who ends up working with the concierge at the Copley Plaza in Boston and getting into all sorts of adventures. The really cool thing is, she is based on a real black lab named Catie at the Copley hotel!
