Listen Up! April 2022 on Poured Over

We have a very, very cool lineup of episodes this month, including our 100th, featuring Jennifer Egan and The Candy House, her incandescent “sibling novel” to A Visit From the Goon Squad, winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

Emily St. John Mandel (Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel) returns with an elegant and surprising new novel, Sea of Tranquility, and Grace D. Li delivers a punchy, cinematic caper novel with Portrait of a Thief. Double-dog-dare you to forget Mungo, the titular hero of Young Mungo, the new novel from Douglas Stuart, whose stunning debut, Shuggie Bain, was a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Booker Prize.

Sara Nović follows up her indelible debut novel, Girl at War, with a coming-of-age story that you’ll be thinking about long after the last page is turned. (Hint: True biz (adj./exclamation; American Sign Language): really, seriously, definitely, real-talk.) Jennifer Egan isn’t the only Pulitzer-winning novelist guesting this month: Viet Thanh Nguyen joins us to celebrate the paperback release of The Committed, his down-and-dirty crime thriller set in Paris featuring the nameless narrator of The Sympathizer. Also new in paperback: Vo Nghi turns The Great Gatsby on its ear in The Chosen and the Beautiful. Pretty sure you’ll be talking about Lessons in Chemistry, the fast-moving and fun first novel from Bonnie Garmus, long after the last page is turned.

Bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner Margo Jefferson (Negroland) discusses her electric new memoir, Constructing a Nervous System. Actress and producer Viola Davis joins us to talk about her stunning memoir, Finding Me.
