1. When Ivy, dressed as a witch, mistakes Bean for a ghost.
Ivy and Bean’s meet cute is one for the ages. Bean is hiding in a bush, waiting to pounce on her older sister, when Ivy appears. Ivy is decked out in her best witch gear: a bathrobe covered with paper stars and moons. Bean, forgetting she is in a bush, calls out to the girl. Ivy looks around, sees no one, and assumes she has heard a ghost. Of course, Bean plays along:

2. When Ivy and Bean make a soggy pledge.
Ivy and Bean want to seal their friendship with a promise, but a simple pledge doesn’t quite seem strong enough. Ivy suggests a blood oath.

3. When Bean tries to shatter an octopus.
Bean and her classmates are totally obsessed with The Amazing Book of World Records. The book features a lady with hair so long that it drags on the ground, a man who eats 30 scorpions a day, and a boy who can balance 15 spoons on his face.

4. When there was a volcano on Sophie W.’s front lawn.
Ivy and Bean discover that all you need to make a volcano is the huge dirt mound on Sophie W.’s lawn, some corn, and a hose. When it’s eruption time, one of the neighborhood kids climbs into the volcano with a hose and sprays the lawn with lava that looks a lot like water. Don’t ask about the corn.

5. When Ivy stood very, very still.
Bean finds Ivy standing in the backyard with her arms in the air and a beatific smile on her face. What is her friend up to now? Ivy tells Bean that she is trying to be good so that animals will flock to her. Ivy explains that if her heart is pure enough, birds will land on her arms and wolves will sit at her feet. Bean is in. She wants wolf friends too!

6. When Ivy and Bean hunt for germs.
Ivy and Bean desperately want to get sick. It’s the only way they’ll get out of their ballet recital. Both girls have been cast as lowly squids in the production of “Wedding Beneath the Sea.” During recess, they ask a boy with a cough to breathe in Bean’s face. With a bit of luck, Ivy and Bean will have a fever in no time.

7. When the parents do what Ivy and Bean say.
The theme of this year’s science fair is global warming and Ivy and Bean have come up with a great idea. When it’s time to present their project, the girls lead the grown-ups outside. After a few minutes of quiet reflection under the stars, no one is sure what the point of the project is. Ivy and Bean explain that they hope this relaxing moment in nature will inspire the grown-ups to care more about taking care of the planet.

8. When a neighbor is just too clean.
There’s almost nothing Ivy and Bean won’t do to get their hands on “Belldeloon Cheese in a special just-for-you serving size.” Desperate for money, the girls decide to sell a paper about the goings on of their cul-de-sac. A bright moment in their reporting comes with their investigation of Mr. Columbi, a man who keeps his car obsessively clean. Ivy and Bean are sure that a man with such a clean car must be hiding something. Perhaps his house is a pigsty?

9. When Ivy and Bean hunt Komodo dragons.
When Bean’s older sister Nancy goes to camp, Bean decides it’s time to start her own camp. Camp Flaming Arrow is born!

10. When a mailman is scared for his life.
After Bean sees an old noir film with her mom, she’s inspired to become a detective. One of Bean’s cases is the mystery of the sleeping mailman. Bean wants to find out why the mailman takes a two hour nap every day on their cul-de-sac. She and the rest of the neighborhood kids gather around the mailman during his daily snooze. Bean P.I. is about to solve a mystery and scare a mailman half to death!
