Like a giant robot lain sleeping for generations underground (just go with us on this), Sylvain Neuvel emerged fully formed onto the sci-fi scene in 2016 with his blockbuster debut novel Sleeping Giants, which revealed—in a narrative pieced together from interview transcripts, snatches of news broadcasts, court transcripts, and other ephemera—just what might happen if a young girl, er, discovered a giant robot that had lain sleeping underground for generations.
Now that he’s wrapped up The Thermis Files trilogy, Neuvel is doing something altogether different. His next book is a provocative novella set in a dark, not-that-alternate near-future. It’s called The Test, and today, we’re showing you the cover, courtesy of Tor.com Publishing.
