It seemed to imply there would be more patterns included - but the ones that were there were ancient and impossible to understand. So, I suppose this book is showing more of what patterns looked like in that era...still, a bit misleading. I also couldn't believe some of the fabulous hats that I didn't see. I think there was maybe one from "My Fair Lady," but that movie and "Moulin Rouge" not to mention other historically accurate films with some of the most gorgeous hats I've ever seen and were nowhere to be found! Overall - a bit disappointing.

I recently picked up a copy of this book during a hat show being presented by the author in Oshawa, Ontario. Shephard's knowledge of hats and the history of millinery brought out a desire in me that I was unaware I had. The book is a masterpiece, filled with clear and detailed photographs. It makes me wonder why people, and women in particular, are not wearing hats all the time.

There really are a thousand hats in this book! I found myself drooling over them.

When turning the pages you get intrigued with the history and artistic value of the pieces. I discovered the book at one of the many hat shows that the author demostrates and am looking forward to her upcoming book on Shoes.
