About the Author

Stephen A. Geraci M.D. is Professor and Vice Chairman for Faculty Development, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. He has held faculty positions at six U.S. medical schools during a 30 year career as an academic clinician. He is a recognized expert in several scientific, educational, and medical administrative areas, and has authored over one hundred scientific articles, abstracts, monographs, book chapters and web pages. Over the years, his hundreds of mentees have themselves become acclaimed clinicians, educators, researchers and administrators at universities and academic health centers, with many receiving awards for their scholarly work.

Mary Jane Burton received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2001. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and a mother of three school age children. She is the Clinical Director of the HIV and Viral Hepatitis clinic at the G.V. Sonny Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is the first author of many peer-reviewed papers on Infectious Disease topics and a recent recipient of the VA CSR&D Career Development Award for her research in hepatitis C and herpes simplex virus type 2. Her clinical and research interests involve new paradigms for hepatitis C therapy in difficult-to-treat populations.
