About the Author

Grace Hallworth (1929–2021) was born in Trinidad and arrived in the UK on a Churchill Fellowship, travelling from Trinidad via internships at the Toronto and New York City public libraries. She was appointed children’s librarian for Hertfordshire Libraries, serving in several key roles from 1957 to 1985. When she retired, Grace continued as a professional storyteller and helped establish the Society of Storytelling, becoming its first chair. Sophie Bass is a London-based Illustrator of mixed British and Trinidadian heritage. She creates work inspired by music, social justice, mythology, and symbolism. Previous work includes her bold and evocative illustrations for John Agard’s Windrush Child.
