I really enjoyed this story by Kathryn Shay! Definitely looking forward to reading more stories in this series. Dan Collins loved his life, family and job and was extremely surprised when his wife didn't want to be married to him any longer. He couldn't believe that she would walk away because of money, but that is just what she did.He was finally in a place where he was finding his new normal and he and the kids were doing great. Lucy Coretta was Dan's best friend and she worked with him on the fire department also. She and the kids had kept him going after his marriage fell apart almost a year ago and now they were dating. Things were going great! Finding out he was supposed to receive an inheritance from someone that he had rescued years ago was definitely a shock, but Dan was just rolling with it up until his ex finds out and decides she wants to get back together. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

I love the Hidden Cove stories, very true characters that are fireman, that I hold true to my heart. Dan is divorced and starts dating his friend, Lucy. Dan's wife left him because he was not rich enough to provide for her tastes. Dan comes upon a large inheritance from saving a life. Now all of a sudden, Claire wants back in the picture and throws Dan's new found love in a tail spin. I listened to this book, and could not stop listening. I will admit, I wanted to strangle Claire a few times. So happy that Dan listened to his heart. I highly recommend this book!

As soon as I heard about this new series, I knew I had to read it. What would you do if something left you a bunch of money? Dan is amazed when it happens to him, but it puts his ex-wife on the prowl. His relationship with fellow firefighter Lucy is brand new and may suffer the consequences. I loved the kids and how strong and no nonsense Lucy is. Dan is a sweet slightly clueless guy who always means well. As an addition to the Hidden Cove Firefighters series it is great. I can't wait to read more in both series. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

A Burning Passion is the first in a series of short stories by several different authors. I love the concept. Is there enough time to fully go in depth on the back story, and the many aspects of the characters? The answer to that is, no. That being said, I promised to give an honest review in exchange for a copy of this book and that is what I am going to give. I really enjoyed this story. A real hero is married with kids and doesn't earn enough money for his wife to "be happy". She leaves him for a rich man, takes the kids and still she is not happy...big surprise. She of course wants him back when she finds out he is no longer poor. There is the conflict. What is this "hero" a dedicated firefighter, supposed to do? Forgive her and give his children back a whole family or follow his heart to another hero? I found lots of conflict and pain and most of all love. I thought the story was well thought out, well written and yes....it was too short. I wanted more. I always do when Kathryn Shay is writing. She is a great story teller. I was very happy to have read this story. I think you too, will enjoy this first in a new series, that connects several authors on a new adventure.

A Burning Passion by Kathryn Shay A Burning Passion by Kathryn Shay, a contemporary romance, is Book 8 in her Hidden Cove Firefighters Series and part of a new multi-author series called “Inheritance” (where each story reflects the changes a billionaire’s legacy makes in the lives of those he meets). When best friends and firefighting teammates, Dan and Lucy, finally admit to their long standing mutual attraction to each other, it looks as though they are on their way to their own “happily ever after”. Just as everything is coming together for them as a couple, Dan gets the news of an unexpected inheritance. Normally, this wouldn’t change his life much, as he has never been materialistic, but when his ex-wife finds out, she will stop at nothing to get him back, even if that means using their children as pawns. The shifting narrative between the two main characters allows readers to see main characters Dan, Lucy, and even ex-wife Clare, as real people with both strengths and weaknesses. The children are shown as typical kids who want their own fairy tale ending but are smart enough to know that life doesn’t always happen that way. The manner in which Kathryn Shay portrays each of her characters gives depth and realism to her story. Dan and Lucy both have their own hopes, dreams, and fears, while the children in the story reflect the turmoil often faced when forced to choose sides by divorcing parents. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a contemporary romance with some twists and turns. This book was an advance copy which I received with the condition of writing an honest review.

Another awesome Kathryn Shay story. Fell in love with the characters, especially Luce and young Gemma. Hoping that Gemma one day gets her own story. This is well worth a read whether you are a Hidden Cove addict or just love a good old firefighter love story. Looking forward to more Hidden Cove stories and reading the Inheritance series.

An excellent debut to an innovative new series! A BURNING PASSION is the first book of the new THE INHERITANCE SERIES, as well as book 8 in Kathryn Shay’s Hidden Cove Firefighters series. THE INHERITANCE SERIES is an interesting concept, where several authors reprise characters from their own series, but where billionaire Harold Hopewell upon his death, has left bequests that will change many lives. Daniel Collins has been divorced from his wife Clare for about a year; she had said she was sick and tired of not being able to live the way she was accustomed to, given her posh upbringing, and she left Dan for a rich man. Dan never really saw it coming, and it was a good thing he had his friend and colleague Lucy to lean on in his time of need. Lucy has been in love forever with Dan, but never said a word: first, he was married, then she wouldn’t be a rebound girlfriend. Dan stayed on rather friendly terms with Clare, mostly because of his two children whom he dotes on. One evening, Lucy’s unrequited love takes a turn for the better with Dan, until the latter hears that he has inherited a whole lot of money, and Clare is on his trail upon hearing this and determined to make them a family once again. A BURNING PASSION takes place in Hidden Cove, NY; being unfamiliar with Ms. Shay’s series, I was pleasantly surprised that I did not feel lost, but rather very comfortable with the firefighters of Station 11. The characters are so well drawn out, that I felt I knew them well right away, and I loved the banter between all of them. The author’s familiarity with the workings of a fire department is also obvious, because I’ve never been in one and I felt I knew how everything worked; the rescue sequences are also terrific, especially the one that led to the bequest. I really enjoyed Lucy’s and Dan’s backstories; Lucy’s a pretty wonderful woman, but I felt like slapping Dan more than a few times; you’ll understand why when you read A BURNING PASSION. The fact is, the relationship between Lucy, Dan, and ultimately Clare feels so realistic, and it is complicated and messed up because of Clare, and also because Dan had not stopped loving her until she betrayed him. A BURNING PASSION is a quick read, Ms. Shay’s writing is impeccable, and everything flows very smoothly. I look forward to reading the upcoming books in THE INHERITANCE SERIES, as well as Kathryn Shay’s Hidden Cove Firefighters! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved A Burning Passion. The characters were nicely developed. There were times I wanted to strangle Claire...and Dan. Gemma was such a treat. Wise beyond her years but yet still so innocent. Ms Shay did wonderful in incorporating former characters into the story (loved the cameo by Jack--he will forever and always be my favorite HC character). If you are a fan of her Hidden Cove series, you won't want to miss this book. Yes it is shorter and has less content than the rest but it was a nice way to revisit old "friends". Now I'm hoping there will be more . Job well done!
