About the Author

Toni Anderson is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, RITA® nominee, science nerd, professional tourist, dog lover, gardener, mom. Originally from a small town in England, Toni studied Marine Biology at University of Liverpool (B.Sc.) and University of St. Andrews (Ph.D.) with the intention she’d never be far from the ocean. Well, that plan backfired and she ended up in the Canadian prairies with her biology professor husband, two kids, a rescue dog, and two laid-back leopard geckos. Toni started writing while pregnant with her first child and never stopped. Her greatest achievements are mastering the Tokyo subway, climbing Ben Lomond, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and surviving fourteen Winnipeg winters (fingers crossed). She loves to travel for research purposes and was lucky enough to visit the Strategic Information and Operations Center inside FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in 2016, and she also got to shove another car off the road during pursuit training at the Writer’s Police Academy in Wisconsin. Watch out world!

The author wrote a book with an intricate and well thought plot. He makes his readers care about the characters. He comes across as an experienced writer who knows how to tell a good story. He even managed to keep the violence to a level that promotes the story rather than slowing it down. Unfortunately he did not succeed as well where sex is concerned. Page affter page of fitting body parts around and inside other body parts were skipped in frustration by this reader. The auther would have done well to insert sex only where it moves the story forward.

I rarely give a review but this author is an excellent writer and storyteller. I found it difficult to put this book down once I started reading it. I just discovered this series and I am already starting on book three. I highly recommend this author.

Fasr-paced action keeps you guessing till the end. A solid suspense story with believable characters that the author pulls together (against the literary and credibility odds) into a cohesive and satisfying ending. Definitely following the rest of the series!

Author is a good soryteller. This gripped my interest. Ending was a litle philosophical, then turned gray. I noticed minor edits... search for college (should be colleague), and blurry-eyed instead if bleary-eyed, and a couple of other minor distractions that I can't remember anymore. Worth my time reading this again, it was really good. Trying the others in the series.

I wasn't sure about this in the beginning, but I kept reading, and I was glad I did. This story had a lot of twists and turns and great character development. Great story!!

Believable characters with a plot that is a grabber, but not confusing to follow. Laid good clues in an inoffensive way throughout. Would definitely like to read others from this author

This was an excellent read. I couldn't put it down. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars were the occassional detailed sex excerpts that I felt weren't necessary in a top notch crime drama. Fortunately, they weren't too lengthy or too frequent. It was also a bit predictable, but most stories are. Otherwise, it was extremely good and you won't be disappointed.

A Cold Dark Place was a thrilling 5 star read and book one in the Cold Justice series. I was pulled in right from the beginning. The FBI had once estimated there were approximately two-hundred and fifty serial killers active in the US at any one time. Alex’s job was whittling that number down. Mallory is an FBI agent who is working hard to put serial killers away. She is also searching for the one responsible for taking her sister from her 18 years ago. Alex is an assassin who is working towards freedom by hunting serial killers, he is counting down the days. When Mallory discovers a serial killer dead at a crime scene she suspects there is someone else they should be looking for. This is where Alex comes in, he decides to watch her and make sure she doesn’t discover who he is. This is where things take an interesting twist and get even better. There is so much more to this great mystery and suspenseful read. There are secrets revealed and you continue to be on the edge of your seat until your done. I was very happy with how everything came together in the end. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A Cold Dark Place by Toni Anderson is the first book in a ten book series and if the rest of the books are half as good as this one, then we are in for a wonderful ride. From the beginning, I was sucked in and it was very hard for me to put the book down to attend to my normal life. Between the chemistry of Alex and Mallory and the intrigue of who the killer may be, this is more than entertaining, its downright enthralling. I love a good thriller but some can be over wrought, too cliche, so I was surprised at how different this story was. It was captivating without seeming tired, familiar but with a twist. I found this book to be just what I needed, something new and exciting and I am eager to start book two.

This is my first read by this author, I have to say “awesome”. This book kept me involved and wondering what would happen next. It is hard to define the line between bad and really evil. In this book the line blurred in many places but all worked out in the end. Really good story and I will definitely go back for another in this series.

Murder and romance. I sometimes think that listening to the audio version of a thriller makes it harder to follow. No matter how well narrated it is, it's still difficult to go back over the bits you've missed, and as I'm usually doing something else at the same time, driving, ironing, washing-up, it's also easier to find yourself in that position. So, in order to write this review I have just been back and replayed the beginning of each chapter - especially the finalé. It was quite interesting listening again, knowing who was guilty. Mallory Rooney is an FBI agent. She was parted from her twin sister eighteen years previously, when Paton was abducted from their bedroom. Mallory has joined the FBI in the hope that she might be able to shed some light on her sister's disappearance, and she is definitely not looking for a romantic relationship. Professional assassin, Alex Parker, is also not looking for a love interest, but he and Mallory are drawn to each other from their very first meeting. There is a killer on the loose, who is targeting young women; and women who go missing for no apparent reason have been tuning up some time later, dead, with the initials 'PR' cut into their skin. Mallory wonders about the coincidence that these were her sister's initials, but has no reason to connect the two. However, it is when Mallory starts to suspect that she may be the killer's next target, that the tension builds. Interestingly, there are a few chapters narrated from the point of view of the killer, although we do not know who s/he is. A couple of the victims have a chance to air their POVs. Eric G. Dove did an excellent job of narrating A Cold Dark Place, although I found myself surprised that it was narrated by a man, I felt I'd expected a female narrator, given that a lot of the story was told from a woman's perspective. My only problem with the book was the rather overplayed love scenes, which could have been seriously edited, but that's just my opinion. 3.5 stars.

I have been on a romantic suspense kick lately and when this book was brought to my attention it just appealed in every way.  The story is well thought out and it is easy to get immersed in the world.  One thing that I truly appreciated was that I never guessed who the killer was.  I found out when the author wanted me too and not before.  I’ve read too many book when I guessed right from the start and ended up frustrated.  Not the case with A Cold Dark Place.  The passion between Alex and Mallory was more intense than I was expecting for this type of novel.  I am not complaining; this is a huge positive in my book, no fade to blacks in this novel.  A lot of the twist were surprising and I was never sure where the story was heading.  I was completely entertained the entire time I was listening to the audiobook.  Eric G Dove did a great job with the narration and I will keep my eye out for more of his work.  Overall I am giving this 4.5 Boundless Stars, I really enjoyed it....Sara
