And Temperance won't rest until she uncovers it . . .

A killer for hire. It's the last thing Cailean Grant ever thought he'd become, but being part of the Black Riders was his only way to survive. Now, his guilt grows day by day, along with his desire for the beautiful, brave lass nursing him back to health. As Christmas, the season of miracles, draws near and the truth of his identity threatens to come out, Cailean must risk the only thing he has left to lose-his heart.

He needed to harden his broken heart, what better way to do that then to ride with the Black Riders, murderous and cold-hearted killers for hire. The day his cousin was grievously injured, Cailean Grant needed to avenge his impending death. Given false information about who the supposed murder is, Cailean gives the nod to punish the man, not knowing he had signed his death warrant. Then he sat, like a cold statue, in shock, in shame and not feeling the satisfaction he had hoped for as Temperance Menzie cradles her dying father’s head in her lap, her soul rent with pain. Fate has a funny way of playing cruel jokes on humanity and now it is Cailean’s turn when he is wounded, left to die and Temperance is the one to find him, unaware of his deed, taking him home to nurse him back to health. Throughout his recovery, he listens to Temperance vow to kill the man who ordered her father’s death. Little did she know how close he was or how much regret he feels. Sometimes an eye for an eye mushrooms into a chain reaction where death and hatred grow, squeezing out any chance for joy in a person’s heart, and the fear of discovery leads to more lies, deceit and a living hell. As love grows, how can Cailean NOT tell her? What will Temperance do when she finds out? Will the season of miracles and love bring joy or more pain for these two? Paula Quinn’s A HIGHLANDER’S CHRISTMAS KISS isn’t a formulaic historical romance, it isn’t cut and dry, two people meant for each other in a time and place where tempers flare and arguments are settled with a sword. It is also a time when celebrations are what keep people going through the hard times, where forgiveness and generosity of spirit are their strongest. Beautiful scenic descriptions take readers back in time to the Highlands where lie is hard, friends are true and evil can easily overpower all. I found myself questioning whether I could forgive my father’s murder, no matter the circumstances. Even more, I questioned if I could love the man responsible, even if he didn’t do the actual deed. But, this isn’t about me, but a woman far stronger, a woman of a different era, so if love conquers all, Temperance is either a fool or a saint in my book! As much as I liked Cailean and for all of the good things he had done, his lie of omission was huge and that truly bothered me. That said, it takes an amazing author to give such life to her characters that I was thinking of them as living and breathing people. I received this copy from Forever in exchange for my honest review.

I won this book from Goodreads giveaways. I have read a few of Paula's other books and this lives up to them. It is a wonderful story of finding love in a time of conflict and also making someone who thought he could never feel or love again come around. I very much enjoyed this book.

'A Highlander's Christmas Kiss' by Paula Quinn is book 5 in "The MacGregors: Highland Heirs" series. This is the story of Temperance Menzie and Cailean Grant. Wow..wow!~ This book has everything I must say. A highlander with a torched sole who thought he could go without feeling but found he had chosen the wrong path with Lord Edward Murdoch’s of Glen Lyon, Black Riders group. His cousin got hurt and he was was mislead into thinking a group leader of a small area was possibly at fault for his cousin being hurt. But when he went to correct this and tell the people so he was stabbed and left to die. But Temperance who was the leader's daughter found him and not know who he was took him in to help him. This just had so much planing out in this story. Another great read by Ms. Quinn!! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Paula Quinn’s writing is superb, fluid and eloquent, yet understated and elegant. Ms. Quinn quietly weaves an abundance of historical details, which do not detract from the story but contribute to the authenticity of the atmosphere. A HIGHLANDER’S CHRISTMAS WISH is a majestic tale, rife with political clashes between clans in the Scotland of 1711, where love cannot be denied from happening. Ms. Quinn’s sense of pacing is faultless, and plot twists abound, and a few caught me completely unawares. The characters whether lovely, loathsome, or anywhere in between behave as people do, while sometimes in ways that defy reason, it is how real people are. There are so many wonderful characters, each and every one of them very complex. And some are utterly irresistible, such as Patrick MacGregor, who will be the subject of the next book in this series, and I cannot wait to see what this charming rogue will be up to. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cailean Grant never imagined that his life could or would be anything other than serving as part of the notorious team of mercenaries known as the Black Riders. The only bright spot in his life coming in the form of his happy-go-lucky cousin, Patrick. Who has come to visit him. In the vain hope of bringing him home to their ancestral home at Camlochlin. But when Patrick is shot as he is passing through the hamlet of Linavar. Cailean is convinced that Seth Menzie, a long time enemy of the Grant clan is to blame. And Cailean it seems is bent on revenge. No matter the cost. Until, that is... He sees the sum total that his hasty rush to judgement mirrored back to him in the grief-stricken gaze of Seth's only daughter Temperance. As she holds her dying father in her arms. As the entire town looks on during the Christmastide feast. But fate it seems is indeed a cruel mistress. When, as Patrick recovers from his wounds in the Black Riders' keep. It is Cailean who is felled by an unknown assailant's arrow. Only to be rescued and nursed back from the brink of death by the one woman that he has hurt the most. A woman who he comes to discover could be the only woman that he could ever love. Temperance and Cailean present readers with a very bittersweet love story. One filled on both sides with loss, pain, and regret. But one in which hope for forgiveness and healing presides. It is this hope in fact, that keeps one reading. Hoping and dare it be said "willing" that things work out for the two fated, yet wounded souls. But Cailean and Temperance's story line is but one sweet and tender morsel, in a seemingly everfull pot. There is also: Temperance's betrothed William Deware's quest to find find and rescue his true love, Marion. The plot by the loathsome Duncan Murdoch to claim Temperance and destroy Cailean by hook or by crook. And... Temperance's plot to have her revenge on the man responsible for the wrongful death of her father. In short. This is a story so full of emotion, complexity, and heart, that you will never want it to end. Reviewer's Note: Though this book is part of an ongoing series. It may be read as a standalone.

I really enjoyed Temperance and Cailean's story. Temperance finds a wounded man in the woods and is determined to give him the help she couldn't give her father. What she doesn't know, is that Cailean is part of the made of men that killed her father. As they send time together, they develop strong feeling for each other. What will happen when Temperance learns the truth about Cailean?? This was a great addition to the MacGregors: Highland Heirs series!!

I started this story before realizing it was part of a series so I don’t know the histories and such. I followed the storyline easily, but probably those who have read the other books will be more invested in the characters and plot. Cailean is sexy, strong and fierce, everything a girl wants in her Highlander. He’s a bit heartsick in the beginning and makes some bad decisions which come back to haunt him. More than one man desires to make Temperance his wife, but none can win her heart before Cailean. Her name isn’t fitting at all. She’s outgoing and headstrong, and she’s sometimes quick to react before thinking through. Although Cailean and Temperance are not always on the same side of a situation, the reader can feel the inevitable pull between them. A Highlander’s Christmas Kiss has love, death, romance and action. There are also plenty of side characters to that draw the reader’s attention. The villains are really easy to hate, and the heroes are likable.
