Victorien Sardou (1831-1908) was a French dramatist who dominated the French stage in the late 19th century. He is best remembered today for his development, along with Eugene Scribe, of the well-made play. The form has a strong Neoclassical flavor, involving a tight plot and a climax that takes place close to the end of the play.
