He begins life in an economically poor family but one rich in values. He and his family are sent to a WWII evacuation camp during the war. Upon their release, he struggles economically and with his education to regain what he loses during his camp days.

Rather than being drafted, he joins the Army and eventually makes it his career. From Private to Sergeant, Second Lieutenant to Major, he serves in the Field Artillery and as an airplane and helicopter aviator.
