A View Askew: Along the Intracoastal Waterway
Whether you are a May-doer, a Have-doner, a May-do-it-againer, or a spare moments/sofa-bound adventurer, you will enjoy taking this trip in A View Askew along the Intracoastal Waterway. Kathy Bennett Dove, an award-winning photographer, reveals what days and nights are like on a slow-go cruise for six weeks. Captivating travelogue blends with 400 photos as she recreates lurking dangers in an uncharted creek, sublime anchorages, buzzard love dances, isolated swamps, and the hidden sides of cities and military bases. She shares insights into boat handling, enticing alligators, unexploded bombs, navigation, 14 foot flamingos, and characterful towns. Her photographs will ignite your color perception and imagination and spark new interests. You will encounter new visual concepts such as an inch of land, Jurassic cranes and an operatic tree. After experiencing this trip, you will know much more than you did, and maybe, you'll wish to go again.-

"Kathy Bennett Dove offers a page-turning account of a trip up the proverbial 'ditch' in all its splendor and shortcomings. The book reads like a stroll along the ICW: leisurely, languid, with glorious photos and quick observations, vignettes that frame its history, and glimpses of the people who traverse its waters. It's a must-read for anyone contemplating a trip but who has reservations about journeying such a long way on a boat. This book will change her mind." - Jane Meneely, former editor, Chesapeake Bay Magazine

"Part travelogue, part coffee table art book, part cruising guide... From quirky to historic to industrial, Dove describes the days and duties in un-intimidating layman's terms, nudging into action anyone even contemplating seeing a part of this amazing country." - Zuzana Prochazka, Executive Director, Boating Writers International

- "Life enriching, stunning writing, thinking and photography...a joy. I am learning all the while I read...funny, fascinating." - Anne Mayo Graf, musician, world sailor
