A Wealth of Pigeons: A Cartoon Collection
Apparently, Steve Martin loves cartoons and covets the talent displayed by his friend, The New Yorker cartoonist Harry Bliss. Each deserves to be in some kind of hall of fame, if they aren't already. They love each other's work, so Steve decided to write a bunch of funny stuff and watch Harry turn them into funny cartoons with captions. The result is A Wealth of Pigeons — lots of original material combined with some familiar themes. Plus, a running commentary about their collaboration which is as funny as the cartoons.
“I've always looked upon cartooning as comedy’s last frontier. I have done stand-up, sketches, movies, monologues, awards show introductions, sound bites, blurbs, talk show appearances, and tweets, but the idea of a one-panel image with or without a caption mystified me. I felt like, yeah, sometimes I’m funny, but there are these other weird freaks who are actually funny....
