Abasteron House by Paula Cappa

Come to the Abasteron House by the sea … at low tide … in a dead calm … Is there something haunting the attic?

Readers' comments: “I loved this–the writing, the pace, the detail, the word choices. A haunting tale with an underlying thread that stays with you.”

"Haunting is certainly true of this piece."

"Great tale. If you like ghost stories, worth reading this short but chilly tale. Love the little scare tucked neatly into the final line, and an effective one at that.”

“Very good indeed, creating an electric atmosphere from the opening lines.”

"An engaging read."

“Brilliantly depicted.”

This short story (flash fiction) was originally published at Every Day Fiction. Paula Cappa is the recipient of an Eric Hoffer Book Award, Readers' Favorite International Bronze Medal for supernatural suspense, and a Gothic Readers Book Club Award Winner.

Abesteron House is a beautifully written short story of a grandfather and grandaughter . I love it. You need to be a bit smarter than the average horror reader to " get " this, otherwise, you will not see the beauty. True horror is written as this. Like this. It's not about blood and gore. That is called noir. Not horror. This is true horror. Thanks

I was enjoying it till it ended. I understand it's a short story, but it's a little too short. It left me wanting more. It reads more like the preface than the story itself. What there is of it is well written.

confusing only to someone that doesn't understand religious symbolism. think of it as a series of spiritually oriented vignettes.

Utterly confusing. I did not, in the least bit, care for this book. Writing is too midevil and the story line serves no purpose and is pointless. Don't waste your time.
