Will the man or the Agent win? The first in the series is always difficult as you have a lot scene setting to do - I enjoyed this but not as much as Ms Shays other series - America's Bravest and Hidden Cove. I did enjoy the interactions between Nick and Isabelle and as always they are well written strong characters, plenty of drama, intrigue, steamy moments, funny quips and tension - but it was lacking the pull of the other two series - cannot put my finger on exactly what is missing but I didn't lose myself in this book. Yes there were scenes that were a little unbelievable and if they had happened Nick would certainly not be promoted as he is.....but honestly this is fiction and we read for enjoyment not for technical accuracy. I love Kathryn Shay's books normally so I will be reading the second in the series and hoping it is stronger and hooks me.

Above and Beyond by Kathryn Shay is fairly quick read, a great choice for those that have limited time for reading. Ms Shay has delivered a well-written book. Kudos to Ms Shay for her amazing cast of characters. Nick is Special Agent in Charge of the President’s protection. Isabelle is the President’s sister that has been receiving threats. Their story is loaded with drama, suspense, action, humor and spice. This book grabbed me on page one and didn’t turn me loose until the end. I enjoyed reading Above And Beyond and look forward to my next book by Kathryn Shay. Above And Beyond is book 1 of the To Serve And Protect Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

What a wonderful start to a new series by Kathryn Shay! I loved Nick and Isabelle's love story! Special Agent Nick Marino is being sent to protect the president's sister because she has been receiving death threats. Even though he would do anything for the president he is finding this request difficult since he is the president's protection, but he realizes that the president trusts only him to make sure that nothing happens to his sister. Isabelle believes that her brother is overreacting to the letters, but soon the threats are close to home and are not only endangering her, but her two sons as well. She realizes that Nick and the other agents are the best at their jobs and will do anything to keep them safe, but keeping her heart safe is a whole other story when she and Nick soon find themselves giving in to temptation. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

This is the first in Shay's new series, called Serve and Protect. The Marino siblings are all dedicated to the Secret Service, military, and medicine. Nick Marino, the main agent on the President's Protection Detail, is asked for a personal favor by President Manwaring: to protect his sister and her twin sons after some credible threats reach her. Isabelle is a young widow and is not inclined to accept the restrictions Nick will place on her. The team has also decided to guard her covertly so that the people threatening her will continue and they can be caught, instead of going underground again. Nick is torn because he is more and more attracted to the young mom but he has aimed to become Deputy Director of the Secret Service and the relationship will put an end to that. Isabelle has a lot to say about that, though. In Shay's hands, the romance and the danger become more and more urgent, and a true conspiracy is uncovered. The siblings make appearances throughout the book, as do the magnificent Marino parents. I look forward to seeing them through the series.

Nick is a Secret Service Agent assigned to protect the widowed sister of The President and her twin boys. He's strictly by the book and has plans to go all the way to the top. This assignment could pretty much seal the deal for that advancement but Isabelle makes him feel and wonder about what it would be like to have a real home and someone to come home to. We are introduced to all of Nick's family and what a wonderful family they are! The characters are so real and supportive of each other. Very enjoyable and quick read. Can't wait to read more of the Marino Family! I voluntarily read an ecopy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Above and Beyond ( To Serve and Protect - Book 1 ) Kathryn Shay Above and Beyond is book one in To Serve and Protect series by Kathryn Shay. Wow, what a story. Shay captured me right at the start and I was hooked. I love the story and the characters, both was well developed. This is a great start to a new series. The Marino family knows how to serve and protect. The President’s sister, Isabelle, who is a widow with twins, is being threatened and Nick Marino , who is the top guy on Secret Service. He would love to have the Directors of Secret job and he has no time for romance. Nick has his hands full with Isabelle .Why would someone want to go after the President’s sister? This is an action filled romance suspense thriller story and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Shay has written a page turner , I could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. Shay did not disappoint . I was given a complimentary copy of this book, buy was not told that i had to give a positive review.

A great start to a new series. The Marino family only knows how to serve and protect in their occupations. This is the story of Nick, of the secret service, who has been asked to protect the president's sister, Isabelle. Isabelle is a widow and young mother of twins. Nick and Isabelle can not deny the chemistry between them but Nick does not want to risk his career. Plenty of family love with the Marino clan. Loved the developing relationship of Nick and Isabelle, even though Nick tried to fight it off. Great suspense with who was threatening Isabelle and keeping her and boys safe. Looking forward to reading more of Marino family!! I read in one day, could not put it down.I highly recommend this book.

ABOVE. AND BEYOND. by Kathryn Shay To Serve and Protect Book 1 We meet Nick 18 years with the secret service, given order to go to Catasaga . He rather be in the kill zone. The job, death threats against president's sister. Another agent will come to be a nanny for the boys. Home, with a hill top view of the lake, in this small town, she runs a book store, people let her be. When changes come, and imposters, what will be the outcome. This is a delightful story with a family element, and a twist of suspense. The characters were well defined . Good reading for all, and a great beginning to this series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Neither Nick or Isabelle expected a security detail would cause such upheaval in their lives. I thought Nick and Isabelle had great chemistry. I liked both of their characters. I initially thought Isabelle was going to be kind of wimpy, but I loved to see that she had a backbone. The book was fast paced, and suspenseful. I also enjoyed all of Nick's family having a part in this book. The whole Secret Service aspect was pretty interesting too. There were a few creepy characters in the book, and there was no real shock that they were creepy. The twist was in how it all came together. There was one person who really seemed to trip the radar and I kept waiting for something to happen. Another surprise. Overall, it was a really enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and give it a 4.5 star rating. I am looking forward to the other Marino siblings books. I voluntarily read and reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy.

A great start for a new series that promises to be another winner for Ms Shay. I started reading her books around 1996, and even now she never ceases to amaze me. This new series is about a family of men and women dedicated to public service and medicine. This first book is about Nick Martino, a Special Service Agent in charge of guarding the President. The President's sister is getting threatening notes so he sends his best agent, Nick, to protect her and her sons. Isabelle is a widow that lost her husband years ago and has dedicated her life to her twins and her business. Needless to say, in the midst of the threats, the suspense, family dynamics , and not knowing whom to trust, these two have an attraction that is hard to miss. Even though on the onset , they seemed like night and day. Nick is determined to work up the ladder of the Secret Service, and is willing to give up his chance at love to accomplish it. Or is he? In addition to the storyline, it was thought provoking . You get a glimpse at the honorable and dedicated men and women who put their lives on the line in order to protect those in their care. Once again, kudos to the author for her eye opening stories. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
