James Harvey Wilbur was a nineteenth century renegade missionary and agent on the Yakima reservation in eastern Washington. On behalf of the Yakima, he met in the White House with Presidents Lincoln and Grant, reportedly getting drunk with the latter.
He helped Yakima converts assimilate to the ascending culture through market agriculture, in an unsanctioned program he financed by diverting government funds.
