I found the new-to-me writing style of Carolyn Crane to be quite entertaining when I picked up her book Against the Dark. Against the Dark is a romantic suspense that intrigued me from the beginning with three female best friends posing as hookers to pull off a diamond heist. Really? When was the last time you read about three women kicking butt to rip off a creepy psycho powerful guy? That scene alone sparked my interest. To complicate their plan, there is a mysterious undercover agent that is watching one of these lovely ladies. Does he know what they are up to? The adventure begins. The main characters of Angel and Cole were very interesting. They were complicated but not really. With so many covers they each had at different times you never quite knew when they were being honest with one another. It keeps the reader on their toes, too, even though there are multiple points of views in the story so you know more than the characters. The story moves along at a good pace and you get to see more layers to Angel and Cole come out. The romance between Angel and Cole is different than I anticipated it would be. I was a little shocked at how quickly after they started working together they became intimate. It was a hot scene and well written, but just surprised me and threw me off a little. The other scenes were much better in my opinion. The ending to Against the Dark was perfect. Everything was tied up nicely and we got a glimpse of Angel and Cole's future life. If you are looking for a hot romantic suspense story that is engaging from the beginning, easy to read and hard to put down, I recommend you give Against the Dark a try. I look forward to the next one in the series!

This was a really fun, enjoyable read. I'm not generally a fan of romantic suspense, but I do like the author's Disillusionist trilogy and this wasn't a very typical romantic suspense anyway.  As with most romances, my favorite part of the book is the characters. I loved that Angel was a safecracker, and I really enjoyed the scenes that had her utilizing those skills. I also liked that she was willing to do whatever she needed to do in order to keep her loved ones safe. I absolutely loved the camaraderie between Angel, White Jenny, and Macy. And Cole was absolutely yummy (I do so love an intelligent man). Angel and Cole had lots of chemistry, and the book was incredibly steamy.  I wasn't super fond of the bad guy, Bergola, because he felt like a little bit of a caricature. It was pretty easy for me to over look this, though. Definitely looking forward to reading Macmillan's book next! Note - I received a free ARC from a contest the author ran in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very good story that would have been 4 stars without the excessive overly-descriptive sex. It is just too much and takes away from the romance...just too crude for me.

Angel is a former thief turned interior designer. When her old crew gets her out of retirement to do a job, it's to steal dIamonds from a sadistic criminal. Cole works for a super secret group and has been undercover in Borgola's organization for a year. Now Cole is blackmailing Angel to help him break into a safe and get info to find a ship full of kids. What they don't expect is to fall for each other.  Sexy, fast paced but I almost quit reading it because it was so confusing. A lot of logistics talk that I had no idea what was going on. But I muddled through and towards the end it gets really good.

Excellent story about Angel who is at some big time gangster's party to steal diamonds whereupon she meets Cole, a security guard, and they dislike each other immediately and then Cole goes after angel to retrieve the stolen diamonds and then he proceeds to blackmail Angel into helping him in his own heist. A few twists and turns making it a fun read.

The story was flat for most of the reading. Agency was not active in story and the crimes being investigated were shadowy and just a backstory not a here and now deadline to solve type. I enjoyed the main characters but all other characters fell flat also. There are some descriptive sex scenes. Over all story had potential but falls flat. I rate it fair/good.

Loved this book! Two wounded souls find love and peace with each other, as well as some hot, slightly kinky sex. This book  is going on my Best Ones shelf.
