Ain't He Precious? by Juliette Poe

Welcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we're clear... that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I've been in town for five minutes, and I'm every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It's a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

So different from Sawyer's usual stories but just as wonderful . I love Paps and his family dynamics. So true of small town living. I cannot wait for the other stories

Wow .... what can I say about Sawyer Bennett's alter ego Juliette Poe apart from what a fantastic fun short read , this novella hooked me from page one, the characters intrigued me and the story drew me in. 11 years ago Trixie graduated from Harvard, turned down a job at a top Boston Law Firm and hightailed it back to Whynot to open her own law practice leaving her boyfriend Ryland behind so why is he in Whynot now, well Trixie needs help with a case and to be honest he stills wonders why she left him the way she did. This author has a way of making you connect on so many different levels with her characters and places , be it the moonshine drinking pistol welding Pa or the shotgun welding brothers, I'm sure this book will bring a smile to your face. Looking forward to more from Juliette Poe

Juliette Poe, is a new author to me. This was a fun, quick read full of romance, laughter and love of family. Both Trixie and Ryland graduated 11 years ago from Harvard Law and their plans were to live together and practice in Boston. That is until Tries pulled the rug out from under their relationship and returned to her southern hometown of Whynot, North Carolina, shattering the plans they had made for their future. When Trixie contacts Ry and asks him to assist on a case she is working on he rushes straight down South to help her out. It is obvious to both of them and Trixie's family that their feelings are still as deep as they were 11 years ago. AS Trixie and Ry face the possibility of life without each other again, both decide that is time for compromises. Neither of them have been truly happy without the other and it is high time they decide to fight for what they both want. Ms. Poe described Whynot in such great detail that I would love to visit. I love the idea of a small town where everyone knows you; although as Trixie and Ry found out that can be annoying at times. Trixie's grandfather Pap is a great secondary character and I hope he actually gets his own story. In fact, all the characters made me smile and I cannot wait until we visit Whynot, North Carolina again. Ain't He Precious? is an extremely well written sweet, sexy, romantic book and I loved it.

The first in a fun new series set in a small town in North Carolina where everyone knows your name and business. These two have a history and passion for each other that really deserved this second chance at making things work. I loved the characters, setting, and crazy special people of this little town. This was a real feel good read. Can not wait to read more in this series.

This was a fun, sweet read. I really liked the first installment from Juliette Poe. Trixie, I LOVED Trixtie and Ryland, a lost love from Law School, a need for some help on a case and a phone call from Trixie... and Ry packed his bags!Who knows what will come of this little adventure? Closure? Love? and a little time in the south, with a lost love, some good food, great drinks and love in the air... how can things not work out? Looking forward to Sex and Sweet Team, #2

4/5 STARS After The Hard Truth About Sunshine by her alter ego, this first book of Juliette Poe felt like a southern, sweet and refreshing iced tea! I’m not a big fan of “novellas” / short stories because they usually feel too short, to rushed, but this one, despite of its length, is a great reading, with really endearing characters. It amazes me how Juliette Poe managed to write a light and sexy love story about second chances, such a great mix of emotions (love, humor, angst, sexy moments) that fit so well in a few pages. And the reader is left waiting for more stories, so I guess we’ll soon hear about Lowe… Promising series, Juliette Poe!

Small town, second-chance romance? Count me in! I adore them and all their quirkiness. Ain't He Precious didn't let me down! Trixie and Ryland's romance was super fun and sweet with a tiny bit of sexy and some swoon. Their relationship moved quickly but it never felt forced. Knowing their back history, I expected their reconnection to be fast and furious. I loved Trixie's family too--those Maninkus men are a formidable brood--I adored Pap. I truly enjoyed my time spent in Whynot. Ain't He Precious is a fun, quirky smart start to the Sex and Sweet Tea series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

5 Stars Ain't He Precious by Juliette Poe is the first book in the Sex and Sweet Tea series. It is a second chance romance That completely blew me away! It was sweet, charming, and had me laughing out loud. Trixie and Ry have known each other since college. They both attended Harvard Law and had amazing chemistry. With being in a relationship for a few years, they started making plans for the future. But you know what they say about best laid plans… Fast forward to over a decade later, Trixie needs Ry’s help with a case. And with Ry being Ry he goes to help her. But what happens when they both lay eyes on each other and it brings back feelings that they both thought were gone? Will they be able to rekindle what they had? Or will it be too late? You'll just have to read it to find out! I love everything Sawyer Bennett and to be honest, I was unsure if seeing her sweeter side come out with Juliette Poe was going to be for me. Boy am I glad to say I was completely wrong to even think it. The chemistry between Trixie and Ry was beautiful and the storyline was amazing! It flowed well and I seriously could not put it down! The characters were well developed and they worked their way into my heart! I cannot wait to read what's next!

: 3.75 stars--AIN’T HE PRECIOUS is the first installment (and novella) in Juliette Poe’s (aka Sawyer Bennett) contemporary, adult SEX AND SWEET TEA romance series. This is Boston lawyer Ryland Powers, and small town lawyer Patricia ‘Trixie’ Mancinkus’s story line. Told from three first person perspectives (Ryland, Trixie and Pap Mancinkus) AIN’T HE PRECIOUS is a second chance story line between lawyers Ryland Powers and Trixie Mancinkus. Eleven years earlier, during their senior year of Harvard Law, Trixie walked out of Ryland’s life and the two never stayed in touch in all of that time. For three years Ryland and Trixie were lovers and had planned their future together but living and working in Boston found Trixie homesick for family and friends. Fast forward to present day wherein Trixie is the lawyer for small town Whynot, North Carolina and she is in desperate need of assistance on a case that would be perfect for Ryland Powers. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Ryland and Trixie, and the realization that our couple has never stopped loving one another in all those years. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Trixie’s family: her parents Catherine and Gerry Mancinkus, as well as twin sisters Laken and Larkin, and brothers Colt and Lowe. The story line is introduced by Trixie’s grandfather Pap Mancinkus, a man who is hoping for a happily ever after for his beloved granddaughter Trixie. AIN’T HE PRECIOUS is a fast and simple read; a lighthearted and sweet story of romance, family and second chances. There is no foul language, and all of the $ex scenes are implied and fade to black. The premise is playful and spirited; the characters are small-town colorful and entertaining ; the romance is comfortable and hopeful. AIN’T HE PRECIOUS is a refreshing story line with a moving cast of vibrant characters and a happily ever after.

Fun, lighthearted read! If you are looking for something that just reads easily and give you that HEA, then this is your book. I love when authors branch out and change up their writing style and content. Kudos to SB for another fantastic read. This is the perfect book to read on vacation or at the beach. Just buy it, you won't be disappointed.

This book had a great start. Setting it up as the north versus south or big city versus small town and that premise was well developed thought out the story. A good set up and great intriguing hook to keep the reader engaged. Overall the pace was good, the main characters were developed and the supporting characters well written. There some repetitions (Ry not knowing that she did not want to live in a big city was replayed in his mind too many times, it became annoying) I like the alternating POV including the grandfathers. Also, I appreciated that misunderstandings were nor drawn out, were discussed right away and cleared up. It showed a more mature approach to problem solving. Overall a good read.

Oh my. An honest to goodness happy, feel good book that left me all warm and fuzzy. A second chance romance that follows Trixie and Ryland, both Harvard Law School graduates who were offered jobs at a prestigious Boston Law firm. Yet after 3 years as a couple Trixie decides to up and move back to her hometown of Whynot, North Carolina, shocking and surprising Ryland in the process. 11 years later Trixie reaches out to Ryland for assistance in one of her cases, and Ryland hops on a plane to meet with the woman he loved 11 years earlier, neither of them expecting anything but closure on their relationship. With some hilarious characters, a wonderfully written story told in dual POV, with some passionate scenes and intense chemistry, this book has firmly placed itself as one of my top picks for this year. So many laugh out loud moments. I am so looking forward to more from Juliette.

Absolutely delightful. Ain’t He Precious? is a charming story about sweet friendship and sexy love. When Trixie Mancinkus went back home to Whynot eleven years ago after finishing law school from Harvard, she didn’t just reject a job offer from one of the most respected law firms in Boston, she also ended her three year relationship with the love of her life. But after all these years when a legal case is giving her trouble, she doesn’t hesitate to call Rylan Powers. Will she rethink her long ago decision when the smart and sexy lawyer in shining tailored suit shows up to help her? Rylan Powers never understood why Trixie would not only turn down a job he thought was part of dream but also their relationship and their plans for a future together to go back to her small town barely enough people to warrant a single lawyer. But one look at his old flame and her relationship with her family and the townspeople is enough for him to want to give them another try. Can the big city man from the north find a way to be with the small town girl from the south who got away? I love reading novellas. When well written their long enough to include and balance everything you need for a good read and their short enough to be quickly enjoyed. I’ll also love Sawyer Bennett books under any penname she uses. So Ain’t He Precious? is a great combination of both with is loveable characters, great plot, fast pace and the wonderful southern charm and hospitality of the little town it takes place in. There were other things to appreciate about this story like Trixie’s meddling grandpa, her somber father, her warm and welcoming mother and amusing siblings. But what I liked most of all was the balance between all these elements and the easy, fun, sexy and deep relationship between Ry and Trixie. She’s a patient, smart, headstrong and confident southern woman who can curse and drink like sailor who values family above all. He’s gorgeous, charming, equally smart and witty. I enjoyed getting to know these two characters and being there with them as sparks fly as they rekindle their love for each other while facing their past in order to have a future. This book make me wish I wasn’t a city slicker and had a front wraparound porch with a swing so I could sip sweet tea spiked with moonshine while reading it. I can’t wait to read more about this family and town. Ain’t He Precious? is the first installment in the Sex and Sweet Tea series by Juliette Poe. It’s a feel good standalone contemporary romance, a cheerful novella that has everything you need to make you smile, swoon and get all the warm fuzzies. Told from both points of view and a happy ending and a prelude to the next story in the series.

What a debut book for author Juliette Poe. Ain’t He Precious for me anyway has it ALL!! Small town romance, second chance love, and a spectacular HEA!!! Trixie Mancinkus and Ryland Powers fell in love while attending Harvard Law School, both were top of their class. Both had been slated to work for one of the top law offices in Boston and planning their future. Then, Trixie did the unthinkable, she moved back home to Whynot, North Carolina, leaving Ryland broken hearted. Whynot, North Carolina was the place where Trixie grew up, where her family still lived. The place where she opened her own law offices. The place where she invited Ry to come after graduation, but he refused and stayed in Boston. Now, eleven years later, Trixie needs help with a case, and she thinks of Ry, the man, and the love she never forgot. When Ry arrives in Whynot, and sees Trixie again, the love he had for her starts to resurface. He begins to see why this town means so much to Trixie. While talking to Pap, Trixie’s grandfather, she begins to see the biggest mistake she has ever made and… Stop, no spoilers. Let me say this, you will love what happens here. I absolutely loved this book and watching Ry and Trixie realize how much they still loved each other. I loved the interaction between the characters both primary and secondary. I loved the writing of Ms. Poe. Her writing reminds me of another writer, Sawyer Bennett. There is a reason for this, a very big reason…. They are one in the same. This is Ms. Bennett’s “sweet side” as she describes it. If you like Ms. Bennett’s writing, and sweet romance, as well as HOT, you will love this book! I know I did!! Kudos Ms. Poe/Bennett on another fantastic journey into romance. I was gifted with a copy of this wonderful book for my honest opinion. Thank you for reading my review. ❤

4 stars Ain't He Precious? was a sweet, fun and heartwarming second chance love story, I really enjoyed it. The writing was well done, the storyline was entertaining, the characters Ry and Trixie were likable, funny and I enjoyed watching them reconnect after being apart for eleven years. It was obvious from the first meeting these two still have deep feelings for each other. They once walked away from the love they shared thinking at the time they couldn't make things work, but now they both know life without the other is not a life they want. Question is can the city loving Ry and the family loving Trixie find a middle ground and make it work? You'll have to pick this sweet romance up and find out for yourself ;) Overall, Ain't He Precious? is a lovely Sunday afternoons read and a great start to the Sex and Sweet Tea series by Juliette Poe. I found all the characters entertaining and I'm looking forward to reading more about them in the near future.

Disclaimer: ARC received in exchange for an honest review With this new novel, Ain't He Precious, Sawyer Bennett assumes the pen name Juliette Poe for the debut installment in her new "Sex and Sweet Tea" series. Although more sweet tea than sex, Ain't He Precious is just that... precious. It's a perfectly pleasant, ridiculously refreshing, utterly delightful, sweet and sassy read. Female lead Trixie is a spitfire. She's the perfect dichotomy: strong but soft, brazen yet bewitching, audacious and unassuming. Poe created this brilliantly strong, big-hearted protagonist who's true to herself, and the dreamboat of man who loves her and embraces the whole package. Ryland is the perfect man -- this is no exaggeration -- and one of the strengths of the story is the depth and the maturity that categorizes Trixie and Ry's relationship. It's so nice to read a book with smart, intelligent adults who communicate and talk through their issues. Additionally, Poe crafts the most charming southern small town chock full of a quirky, colorful cast of characters, and fostering a warm, welcoming, hospitable environment for both her Yankee transplants and readers. With a narrating assist from Trixie's cantankerous grandpap, the story is told in alternating perspectives, but tends to be heavy on the exposition. The story occasionally seems to be more talk than action, with much of the action being relayed verbally by the narrators or through dialogue. Also, much of the intimacy between Trixie and Ry is implied, with the sexual relationship taking a backseat. There is definitely chemistry and tension in Trixie and Ry's relationship, which drives the story and engages the reader, but the lack of specifics creates a more mature tone. There's heat, but not as much sizzle. Despite that though, Ain't He Precious is a heartwarmingly easy and easygoing read that I resoundingly recommend.

I was so excited to read this sweet romance by Juliette Poe and I was not left disappointed, what a great, sweet read! I adored the Mancinkus family dynamic, and the small town feeling I got when meeting all the various eccentric characters from Whynot. It's a short, novella length book which left me kind of wishing and hoping for more, because the characters were just so likeable and I want to know them even better! That said, it didn't feel like the characters were glossed over, I was able to connect with them and love them even with the short length. I'm excited for more in this series - more Trixie and Ry, AND I hope more of the other members of the Mancinkus family!
