Overview

"Alex 'Skinnybones' Frankovitch is back, this time starring in a TV commercial after sending a prizewinning letter to a cat food company. Alex is signing autographs in preparation for his newfound celebrity, but things don't work out the way he hoped. Onscreen, he plays a six-year-old running away from home—quite an insult for a 12-year-old. Alex has one more chance at fame when he wins a role in A Christmas Carol, but it's as Tiny Tim, not Scrooge as Alex would have liked. As always, Park is laugh-out-loud funny and kids will have a wonderful time with this story."—Booklist.

ALMOST STARING SKINNYBONES by:Barbara Park

The main character in this story is Aleks. He is one of the kids at school that is a nerd. Well in this story he doesn¿t just stay as a nerd, he becomes cool. He gets to know what it¿s like to be cool, but only for a little bit.
Ok so we know that Aleks is one of the nerds at school now. Well he wins a prize that lets him go on a cat food commercial, called Kitty Fritters. On this commercial he acts like a little kid. The little kid is running away from home and he is taking his cat with him. All he takes is this big bag of Kitty Fritters. Well he makes a total fool of himself trying to put the big bag of cat food into the wagon by falling down. So then the next day at school everyone saw the commercial and everyone was laughing at him all day. In this book it didn¿t say what day and time it was, so I¿m just guessing that every new chapter was a new day.
I liked this book because it was about a kid that had a problem; also Barbara Park makes a lot of good books. In her books you can really picture the story and tell when the story starts to change. The whole meaning of this story is about a kid that is a nerd and keeps making a fool of him every time he tries to act cool. I would recommend this book because it is very detailed, it has good word choice and once you start reading it you can¿t stop.
Some connections that I had were that when Aleks knew he was going to be on TV he acted like he was the best. Also when he made a big mess he blamed it on the cat, now when I do bad things at my house I don¿t blame it on the cat, but I blame it on my brother. =]
