Large foldout flaps let dinosaurs stand tall in this eye-catching book printed on glossy cardboard stock and dominated by bold digital illustrations. Each dinosaur appears in a realistic graphic along with a bulletin board collection of facts about its diet, habitat, behavior, and other characteristics. Lifting the full-page flaps up and to the right creates “L”-shaped spreads that show large depictions of the dinosaurs, including a stegosaurus that appears with its babies and a spiky euoplocephalus that defends itself against a T. rex by using its club tail. Profiles of “Dinosaur hunters” provide insight into the paleontology profession. Between the inventive format and ample information presented, dino lovers should be rapt. Ages 5–up. (July)

Gr 3–4—This oversize, heavy board book has foldout pages that reveal large realistic illustrations of dinosaurs when open, and an assortment of pertinent facts/factoids when closed. While hefty, it contains a mere seven Jurassic/Cretaceous creatures, ranging in size from the modest Euoplocephalus through the larger Corythosaurus to the truly huge Barosaurus. The snippets of data on the folded flaps include physical information, global location maps, diet, an introduction to the paleontologist who first discovered each dino (complete with picture), and an introductory paragraph.
